Demon's Souls has received a new update in October 2025, bringing the game to version 1.007.000. The update follows up on a fairly recent update to the PlayStation 5, which enables a new PlayStation feature for Demon's Souls.
A 2020 remake of the original PS3 game, Demon's Souls was received as a major success following years of fan demand for it to happen. While the game has largely become dormant with a lack of significant updates in recent times, a new one has now released, which gives players a different way to enjoy the game.
PS4 and PS5 Get New System Updates for October 2025
Sony releases new system software updates for both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, bringing some minor improvements to both consoles.
Demon's Souls Releases 1.007.000 Update
Demon's Souls has now been updated to version 1.007, which has given the game the ability to be played with the new Power Saver function on PlayStation 5. The Power Saver mode was added to PlayStation 5 consoles back in September 2025, but only a few games have announced plans to utilize it. One of these was Demon's Souls, which has now made good on its promise, while the remaining games are Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, and Ghost of Yotei. Those who haven't used the Power Saver feature yet and want to check it out can enable it easily. Players just need to go to the settings screen, then system, power saving, and then enable the Power Saver mode. At this time, it's not known what other games will be added to the Power Saving-compatible list or when they'll be added.
Cutting how much energy the PlayStation 5 uses while playing Demon's Souls does come at a cost, of course. According to numerous reports, the game caps out at 30 frames per second while in Power Saving mode, and the game is displayed at a lower resolution. It's a far cry from the 60FPS and 4K the PlayStation 5 is capable of, but it may be a good option for those who are trying to save energy or reduce how much heat their PS5 produces. One analysis found that the PlayStation 5 went from using about 230W playing the game normally down to 100W with Power Saver enabled, cutting power consumption dramatically.
PlayStation and Sony have been taking steps to reduce energy consumption and to be more environmentally friendly. However, some also suspect that PlayStation could also be working on technology to reduce energy while maintaining the best possible performance for its rumored handheld. While unconfirmed, the alleged handheld would presumably use considerably less energy than a powerful home console, like the Steam Deck or the ROG Xbox Ally X.
