Barrow-Dyad has quickly become a must-have Exotic in Destiny 2: Episode Heresy. This Strand Sumachine Gun can annihilate hordes of ads and deal chunks of damage to bosses with sustained fire, especially with the right Catalyst. For Barrow-Dyad, there are 4 catalysts to be aware of, and players are going to want to know how to unlock and complete each of them.
Destiny 2: How To Get Barrow-Dyad Exotic
Destiny 2 players looking to get their hands on the Barrow-Dyad, an Exotic Strand SMG, can do so with the help of this detailed guide.
Obtaining every Barrow-Dyad catalyst in Destiny 2 is essential to perfecting the gun by providing it with the enhancements and upgrades it needs to really shine in the competition, so players will be able to find the path to each catalyst below, along with the Barrow-Dyad God Roll.
The Barrow-Dyad Catalysts can be obtained in any order.
How to Get Catalyst #1 – High-Impact Reserves
A Needle’s Path Quest
The first catalyst that became available in Destiny 2 was High-Impact Reserves. Players can obtain the quest for this Catalyst by reaching Rank 12 on the Path of Resolve at the Shaping Slab in Eris Morn’s Flat. Once players have reached Rank 12 and have acquired the upgrades from this rank, they are going to want to drop into an Expert version of the Court of Blades with Barrow-Dyad equipped, along with a Scout Rifle, Sniper Rifle, or Linear Fusion Rifle in the Energy and Power Slot.
Completing an Expert Court of Blades with Barrow-Dyad and these long-range weapons will see players rewarded with the High-Impact Reserves catalyst, as players are supposed to originally earn the catalyst from their first Expert Court of Blades run, but that step can be skipped simply by doing the first run with the weapons mentioned above. Court of Blades on Expert mode will not be difficult, as there are no limited revives and players can simply wait out the 15-minute timer to finish the final encounter and complete the mission.
How to Get Catalyst #2 – Hatchling
A Hammer’s Path Quest
To obtain the Hatchling catalyst for Barrow-Dyad, players must first have completed Step 11 of Episode: Heresy Act 2’s main story quest. The next part is perhaps the trickiest, as it relies solely on RNG to activate, and requires players to find two specific secrets within The Nether, which can be found in either Explore, Advanced, or Expert:
The Ravenous – Head to the Hall of Souls in The Nether, where on the right of the main court area is a Cursed Thrall called The Ravenous. Players must guide this enemy through the room where a group of worms can be found on the floor. After eating the worms, the Cursed Thrall becomes an Acolyte, and players can continue to walk through the Hall of Souls to the back right, so it eats more worms and becomes a Hive Knight. Once The Ravenous is a Hive Knight, kill it to complete a secret of the Dreadnaught.
Ogre Ascendant – Activate the Path of Resolve at the Shaping Slab and head into the Trenchway in The Nether, where, at the very back platform, players can find a Hive pillar that they can investigate. Opposite this pillar on the ritual site will be more pillars to activate, and upon activating all of them, a Taken Ogre Mini-Boss will spawn, which players can kill for another secret of the Dreadnaught.
After the three steps above have been completed, players should now have 3 Coalescence of Sorrow. Now it’s time to head back into The Nether and reach the Trenchway area, where in the far left area of the Trenchway (near the path to the Hall of Souls), there will be invisible platforms to locate with your Ghost equipped. Navigate through these platforms to reach a portal, where, inside, will be a chest containing the Hatchling catalyst quest.
Now that players have A Hammer’s Path quest, they will need to complete an Expert run of The Nether activity with Barrow-Dyad equipped, along with either a Shotgun, Glaive, or Sword for both their Energy and Power weapons. This might be a tad more challenging due to the limited revives, so if you don’t have a Fireteam, try to use either an LFG Discord or the official LFG app.
How to Get Catalyst #3 – One for All
A Hundredfold Path Quest
Within Act 3 of Episode: Heresy, players can access the Sunless Cell strike from the Last City in Destinations. From here, simply complete The Sunless Cell with Barrow-Dyad equipped to receive A Hundredfold Path, the catalyst quest for the One for All perk. If players want to avoid re-doing the Sunless Cell strike for the next step, then simply complete your first run of the Sunless Cell with Barrow-Dyad, along with either Auto Rifles, Submachine Guns, or Machine Guns in the Energy and Power weapon slots.
For the One for All catalyst, players must also have found all 10 Tithing Wormspawn, which can be found through the Path of Ambition while on the Dreadnaught during The Nether activity. There are 2 Tithing Wormspawn in each area, and players can find the worms easily by running around and checking the minimap for discoverables. After collecting all 10, players will have completed this catalyst.
How to Get Catalyst #4 – Target Lock Refit
A Silken Path Quest
For the Target Lock catalyst for Barrow-Dyad, players must have progressed far enough into Episode: Heresy Act 3 so that they can pick up Mission Dossiers from the Shaping Slab. Players will need to collect 3 Coalescence of the Knife items, which can be acquired through the following ways:
- Complete Mission Dossier: Blade Logic
Skyburner’s Chest – Head into The Nether into the Hull Breach and locate Toland, the scannable taken orb who is found to the front right of this area. This will spawn the Skyburners' Grudge enemy, who must be killed to obtain the Legion Code. With the Legion Code, head down to where Toland was and interact with the locked Cabal wall in a cave to find a chest which contains the Coalescence of the Knife.
Hive Rune/Symbols Chests – Head into The Nether until you reach The Founts area, where players will want to check the wall to the left of the strange Hive plug in the floor to locate Hive symbols. Players must then shoot the identical symbols found on the wall behind these symbols in the order that they appear. Alternatively, another secret in The Founts involves finding a Hive Symbol in the same area, which can be shot to find a Taken orb, which can also be shot. Doing either of these secrets provides a chest with the Coalescence of the Knife.
With all 3 Coalescence of the Knife items acquired, head back into The Nether until you spawn into Hull Breach. From here, head to the dark room in the back left of the area, where players can interact with a Hive terminal to activate a portal. Upon entering the portal, there will be a chest containing the A Silken Path quest.
With A Silken Path now acquired, players must return to the Shaping Slab and then activate the Path of Resolve and find 10 Ravenous Wormspawn, which can be found across the Dreadnaught during The Nether, with 2 Ravenous Wormspawn found in each of the 5 areas. The final step requires players to complete the Exotic Mission “Derealize” from The Last City in Destinations, with Barrow-Dyad equipped.
