With Destiny 2 evolving over the years through multiple expansions and seasons to progress the story and experiment with new different game modes, players might be interested in the chronicle of Destiny over the past decade.

Updated on December 21, 2024, by Jake Fillery: With the conclusion of The Final Shape and the Light vs Dark saga, Destiny 2 has entered into its epilogue, and while future content will still emerge, and even new expansion will continue to roll out, the seasonal content method remains unchanged, and as the months go by, players might want to know what they have missed, and what the chronological order of events are from Destiny 2's Season 1 to its finale.

1 The Red War

Season 1

Destiny 2 Dominus Ghaul
Destiny 2 Ghaul Cropped
  • Start Date: September 6, 2017
  • End Date: December 5, 2017
  • Notable Content: Leviathan Raid
  • Max Power Level: 305

When Destiny 2 was first released, players had access to the main campaign, the Red War. This season was the debut of Destiny 2, and players would see their Light stolen from them by the Cabal Red Legion. This season had a pretty great campaign, spanning the Solar System in which the Guardians would fight for their Light and take back the Last City. Destiny 2 didn’t release a lot of content, but the campaign and the Leviathan Raid presented plenty of opportunities for players to get invested in Destiny’s new era.

2 Curse Of Osiris

Season 2

osiris from curse of osiris
  • Start Date: December 5, 2017
  • End Date: May 8, 2018
  • Notable Content: Eater of Worlds Raid Lair
  • Max Power Level: 335

The first expansion for Destiny 2 was the Curse of Osiris, which took players to Mercury in search of answers to the missing exiled Warlock, Osiris, the mentor to the Warlock Vanguard, Ikora Rey. Guardians discovered Sagira, Osiris’ ghost, and the journey took players across time to stop the Vex from assimilating the universe. The story was rather short, and the content was certainly lacking, as there wasn’t much to do on Mercury other than a repeating public event.

3 Warmind

Season 3

A Guardian standing in front of Rasputin the Warmind
  • Start Date: May 8, 2018
  • End Date: September 4, 2018
  • Notable Content: Spire of Stars Raid Lair
  • Max Power Level: 385

Ana Brey has discovered the Warmind Rasputin on Mars, and Guardians must venture to aid her efforts to boot up Rasputin and destroy the Hive God, Xol, Will of the Thousands, which threatens the Solar System. There are a few interesting lore details regarding the Hive and Clovis Bray’s operations with Rasputin, and the discovery of exotics like the Sleeper Simulant and Polaris Lance make the expansion worth it alone. There was also some fun endgame content with Escalation Protocol.

4 Season of the Outlaw

Season 4

destiny-2-forsaken-key-art
destiny 2 forsaken main art
  • Start Date: September 4, 2018
  • End Date: December 4, 2018
  • Notable Content: Last Wish Raid, Shattered Throne Dungeon
  • Max Power Level: 600

Years after the Taken War, the Reef has fallen deeper into lawlessness, and alongside Cayde-6, Guardians must aid in quelling the riots of the Prison of Elders. That is until it’s discovered that the most-wanted criminals have escaped, and they are being led by none other than Uldren Sov. Season of the Outlaw is the Forsaken pack, which follows a revenge tale as Guardians hunt Uldren to avenge Cayde. The story is great, the Tangled Shore and Dreaming City were exciting, and the Western vibes were plentiful.

5 Season of the Forge

Season 5

Destiny 2 Ada-1 New Idea
  • Start Date: December 4, 2018
  • End Date: March 5, 2019
  • Notable Content: Scourge of the Past Raid, Forge Ignition
  • Max Power Level: 650

The Black Armor is open, and players have a chance to unlock powerful, unseen weapons, including the much-awaited return of Heavy Machine Guns. Whilst there was nothing much in terms of story content, this season did add Forge Ignitions, which was a fun 3-player activity in which Guardians must fight enemies and charge the forge to unlock new weapons from Ada-1 in the Tower.

6 Season of the Drifter

Season 6

The Drifter from Destiny 2 holding up coin-1
  • Start Date: March 5, 2019
  • End Date: June 4, 2019
  • Notable Content: Gambit Prime
  • Max Power Level: 700

The Drifter is the centerpiece of the galaxy for Season of the Drifter, and his enticing promise of loot has him on a pedestal. The Drifter has plenty of tricks up his sleeves, as well as a choice between siding with him or the Vanguard, which sadly didn’t amount to anything. Nevertheless, Gambit Prime was an evolved variant of the PvPvE game mode, and it was fun for a while, especially with specific combat roles depending on the armor players wore.

7 Season of Opulence

Season 7

Destiny 2 Season Of Opulence
Destiny 2 Season Of Opulence
  • Start Date: June 4, 2019
  • End Date: September 30, 2019
  • Notable Content: 750
  • Max Power Level: Crown of Sorrow Raid

After defeating one of his robots in the Leviathan Raid, Emperor Calus has returned, beckoning Guardians to his Menagerie to fight some foes and enjoy some treasure. This enticing invite is to unlock the powerful Chalice of Opulence, and players can upgrade specific types of gear as well as enjoy the fights that take place on the Menagerie with up to 6 players against different bosses and collections.

8 Season of the Undying

Season 8

Eris Destiny 2
wdehqwied
  • Start Date: October 1, 2019
  • End Date: December 10, 2019
  • Notable Content: Garden of Salvation Raid, Pit of Heresy Dungeon
  • Max Power Level: 960

Delving into the Black Garden is never a good idea, and in doing so, a portal has opened to allow the timeless Vex to strike back at Guardians. The Vex have taken the Moon, and players must do what they can to stop this invasion once and for all. The content itself comes from the Shadowkeep expansion, which also includes a return of Eris Morn, and a battle against the dreaded Hive Keep, bringing about ghastly threats and more wizards on the Moon.

9 Season of Dawn

Season 9

Destiny 2 ornaments from Season of Dawn
  • Start Date: December 10, 2019
  • End Date: March 9, 2020
  • Notable Content: The Sundial
  • Max Power Level: 970

Destiny 2 forever changed after Shadowkeep, and with the looming threat of the darkness and the pyramid ships, it’s time to summon forth allies of old. Guardians from all over are called to aid Osiris to stop the Cabal Psion Flayers from undoing the victory against the Red Legion by manipulating time. This season took place mostly on Mercury, where players would experiment with the Sundial to play with time and save Saint-14 from certain death.

10 Season of the Worthy

Season 10

next content reveal coming soon
bungie destiny 2 season of the worthy art
  • Start Date: March 10, 2020
  • End Date: June 9, 2020
  • Notable Content: Seraph Towers
  • Max Power Level: 1010

It’s time to save the Last City again, as desperate for revenge Psion Flayer has enacted a plot that could spell doom for humanity since the Almighty is heading for a collision course to destroy the Last City. To stop it, Guardians need Ana and Rasputin’s help, and to do so, it’s time to activate Seraph Towers and Seraph Bunkers, allowing for more public events and Lost Sectors to be accessed in new and difficult ways.
