Bungie reveals new details for the upcoming Arms Week event in Destiny 2, including a powerful new weapon and mods players can unlock. The latest expansion launch was just the start for players on this new Year of Prophecy journey in Destiny 2, as Bungie outlined what else players can expect in the near future.
The launch of Edge of Fate served as just the beginning for players, as the Year of Prophecy roadmap has more content coming to Destiny 2. Already, players have seen the arrival of The Desert Perpetual raid, which featured new nonlinear mechanics that seemingly were a hit with players, though the experience was bugged down by bugs and other issues. With the Raid now in the rear view mirror, Bungie is revealing more of the upcoming roadmap, starting with a limited-time event called Arms Week.
Destiny 2 Fans Discover Unannounced Changes in Edge of Fate Prompting Apology from Bungie Dev
Destiny 2 players discover numerous unannounced changes in the Edge of Fate update, prompting a Bungie developer to apologize and provide context.
Prior to the Destiny 2 Solstice event, which begins in August, Bungie is kicking off Arms Week on July 29 at reset. The limited-time event is live for only a week, placing a spotlight on a specific weapon archetype. For this initial run, players can use Hand Cannons to start a new pursuit quest with Ada-1 at the shooting gallery, gather telemetry by playing, and unlock new rewards. Not only that, players can complete new Daily and Weekly challenges from the Event Home menu, offering unique Holofoil weapons, Reroll Chips, and more.
Destiny 2 Arms Week Adds Unique New Weapon and Mods
As part of the Arms Week reveal, Bungie showcased what it calls the "star of this event" with the Phoneutria Fera Hand Cannon. It is Destiny 2's first ever spreadshot hand cannon, which means it's essentially a pocket-sized solar shotgun that uses primary ammo. Players can also earn legacy hand cannons and a new Strand Adaptive Trace Rifle called Ribbontail.
However, the event will also debut Volatile Mods that will be available for a limited time. These special mods can only be equipped to Destiny 2 Hand Cannons during this initial Arms Week, but they offer powerful bonuses. Bungie detailed a few that will be available including:
- Chaotic Munitions - Precision final blows produce randomized effects.
- Cowboy Grip - Supremely improved hip-fire weapon performance.
- Fragmentation Rounds - Precision final blows create multiple explosive submunitions.
Bungie appears to be looking at Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate as a marathon and not a sprint, with the studio outlining plans to continue shaping the experience through fan feedback. While the launch of The Edge of Fate in Destiny 2 wasn't entirely smooth, Bungie has continued to tweak the game through updates, with plenty more on the horizon.
