Not long after Destiny 2’s new multi-year Fate saga began, the first Seasonal Event of this new era for the franchise is almost here. Destiny 2's Arms Week Seasonal Event is set to begin on July 29 at the weekly reset, promising some shiny new loot for players to earn, but only for a limited time. Ahead of this new Seasonal Event, though, there's already a great shadow of doubt being cast about the quality and quantity of loot that will be up for grabs.

As the first Seasonal Event of Destiny 2’s Fate saga, Arms Week is naturally in a position where it will set the pace for what kind of rewards players can expect from future Seasonal Events. More importantly, though, there are also expectations for this event to address the current state of Destiny 2’s Armor 3.0 loot economy and how rare the new tier-five loot is. For both of these reasons, Destiny 2’s Arms Week ultimately has an incredible weight on its shoulders.

Destiny 2 Doubling Down Niche Meta
Destiny 2 Doubling-Down on this Niche Meta Could be the Point of No Return

Destiny 2’s 9.0.0.3 update might have just tipped the balancing scales a bit too far when it comes to the endgame PvE meta in The Edge of Fate era.

Destiny 2’s First Seasonal Event After the Armor 3.0 Update Will Be Walking on Eggshells

Thanks to Destiny 2’s Armor 3.0 update that arrived with The Edge of Fate expansion, there are new tiers of legendary armor sets and weapons for players to hunt down, with the higher-tiered loot providing enhanced benefits. Unfortunately, though, getting a full inventory of tier-five armor and weapons with desirable stats and perks has turned out to be much more difficult than many gamers initially expected.

Destiny 2’s Desert Perpetual Raid Loot Pool Speaks Volumes About the Armor 3.0 Loot Economy

An extreme example of this is loot from the new Desert Perpetual Raid. Despite being one of the hardest endgame activities in Destiny 2, this Raid has been known to drop tier-one armor and weapons, which is the lowest of five possible tiers. This frustrating balance with Destiny 2’s Armor 3.0 loot economy isn’t exclusive to the new Raid, yet the difficulty-to-rewards ratio of this activity shows just how problematic the new loot economy often is. Consequently, many fans feel that Destiny 2 could be more generous with the new tiered loot and that a rebalance might be necessary at this point.

Destiny 2's Arms Week Seasonal Event Could Decide the Fate of the Armor 3.0 Loot Economy Balancing Debate

With Arms Week starting today, July 29, this Seasonal Event will be dropping right in the middle of this lingering controversy for Destiny 2 of whether the Armor 3.0 loot economy should be rebalanced. Unlike the Raid and other activities in Destiny 2, Arms Week, being a limited-time event, puts it in a position where it could ultimately decide the fate of Destiny 2’s loot economy.

Arms Week will last from July 29 – August 5, and Destiny 2’s Solstice Seasonal Event will begin immediately after, lasting from August 5 – 19.

Since players will only have a limited time to earn some of the exclusive gear from Destiny 2’s Arms Week event, the loot economy specific to this event must give players ample opportunities to earn higher-tier versions of the event’s loot. Otherwise, this event and its exclusive rewards might not return for a while, leading to potential backlash from gamers who miss out on some of the rewards because of bad RNG luck, despite participating in the event.

So far, Destiny 2’s Fate saga has turned out to be quite a transformative chapter for the franchise, though some of the recent changes have left the community divided. Hence, with the first Seasonal Event of Destiny 2’s Fate saga, there’s a heavy amount of pressure riding on this event, as it will surely influence future Seasonal Events, but more importantly, it can settle the ongoing debate about whether Destiny 2’s Armor 3.0 loot economy should be rebalanced.
