Veteran Destiny 2 players know how important it is to use grenades effectively in game. With twelve different options, it can be difficult to decide which type to use. Testing reveals that there are eight viable grenades and four that guardians should never use.

It should be noted that the right grenade for each player will depend on a number of factors. Playstyle has an impact on the usefulness of each grenade listed below. What subclass a player prefers will also limit the number of options for gamers. There are three abilities, and grenades are just one of them, so it might not make sense to switch classes just to use a better grenade. This list includes all of the titan grenades ranked objectively from worst to best.

Updated on July 29, 2021 by Payton Lott: Titans only have a handful of grenades that are top tier in PVP and PVE. To help guardians get a better idea of how effective each grenade is against AI and other players, this updated list will include damage statistics. Players can compare damage values against each other to gauge which grenades are actually viable. The best Titan grenades deal high damage and have a large AOE. Two different AI were tested to provide even more information about damage ranges in PVE. Guardians will want to be using the top options highlighted at the end of this list. Every grenade in the game is now available to new players following Beyond Light. However, the Stasis grenades are only available to those that purchase the Beyond Light expansion and complete the story missions.

12 Fusion Grenade

destiny-gunslinger-swarm-grenade

The Fusion grenade is the most disappointing titan grenade in Destiny 2. It is supposed to deal more damage to enemies that get stuck by the grenade. However, even with the supposed increase, the grenade has less damage output than the initial damage of most explosive grenades. The fusion grenade does less damage and is more difficult to use. Guardians should avoid the abysmal grenade, which has no effective use in Destiny 2.

11 Voidwall Grenade

Voidwall Destiny (1)

The titan voidwall grenade is the same as the other voidwall grenades. On impact, the grenade will create a horizontal area of effect (AOE) that will deal damage over time. However, in PVE, the grenade will sometimes not deal any AOE damage. Even if the grenade did work as intended, there are a host of better options for gamers. The voidwall is good in theory, but not in practice. In PVP, the best use for the voidwall is to trap enemies or block lanes on smaller maps. Opponents can be funneled in one direction for easy kills.

10 Magnetic Grenade

Destiny 2 Titan Sentinel Subclass Video

The effects of the magnetic grenade are similar to the other sticky grenades in the game. If a player or AI is directly hit by the grenade, it will inflict more damage. Even in PVP, the grenade is a middle of the pack choice. It seems odd that even a direct impact will cause just 151 damage in PVP. That is less than most of the exploding grenades in Destiny 2. The sticky grenades are just not very reliable in Destiny 2, and guardians will be better off using an exploding grenade instead.

9 Thermite Grenade

Destiny-2-12-Man-Raids

The thermite grenade suffers from many of the limitations of the voidwall grenade. It has a high damage output, but the spread of the AOE makes it less useful in PVE and PVP. On impact, the grenade will disperse four thermites in a straight line following the direction the grenade was thrown. Because of the dispersion, enemies will need to be in a straight line to be in the AOE. With perfect placement the thermite can tear through health. Still, players have better options lower on this list.

8 Lightning Grenade

Titan using a Lightning Grenade - Destiny 2 Titan Tank Tips

According to the stats, the lightning grenade does the same amount of damage as the pulse grenade. However, the lightning grenade has a smaller AOE and can be easily avoided by guardians. With an accurate throw, the lightning grenade will dish out five ticks of moderate damage. With Magnitude equipped, the grenade will stay active even longer, causing more DOT. Although, guardians are better off with the pulse grenade because of the larger damage area. Getting a precision hit in the Crucible will kill opponents, but that is tough to do.

7 Flashbang Grenade

Destiny Arcbolt (1)

The flashbang grenade is a top tier titan grenade in the game. It is easy to use, does enough damage, and has a large AOE. In PVE, players will be able to damage multiple foes at once with the flashbang. In PVP, the grenade will weaken enemies within a few meters and set up easy kills for gamers. In addition to damage, the flashbang causes a stun effect that lasts for a total of seven seconds. With Magnitude, the stunning effect continues for two more seconds. This will give squads plenty of time to lay down DPS on enemies with large health pools.

6 Incendiary Grenade

Titan incendiary (1)

Similar to the other incendiary grenades in the game, the grenade does damage on impact and five ticks of burn damage over tim e. The incendiary grenade has a decently large area of effect, but the damage falloff is severe. Even with a drastic falloff on the initial explosion, the grenade can still output high damage with each tick. It is irrelevant where in the AOE a player is because the burn damage is the same every time. While the grenade is good, there are a few that are better.

  • PVE Pleasure Gardens Tree Dogs: 4,991

5 Pulse Grenade

Destiny Pulse Grenade (1)

The pulse grenade is the best arc grenade available to titans. The grenade will do some damage on impact and pulse a total of five times. Each pulse will deal two times the initial impact damage. In any mode, the grenade will destroy enemy shields in an instant. Guardians can deal damage to an infinite amount of players as long as they are in the AOE. Gamers should be running the pulse grenade in every arc subclass. The enormous AOE will decimate adds and trap guardians in the Crucible. Despite some balancing, pulse grenades are still impressive.

  • PVP: 210
  • PVE Modular Mind: 5,182 (Magnitude)
  • PVE Pleasure Gardens Tree Dogs: 28,388

4 Supression Grenade

Destiny Supressor Grenade (1)

The suppression grenade is the only void grenade that players should be using. It does a considerable amount of damage on impact and has a "suppression" effect. In PVE, the suppression will prevent enemies from using any of their abilities for ten seconds. The grenade will even cancel an active super. For that reason alone, the suppression grenade is incredible in the Crucible.

In PVE, adds and majors will essentially be stunned by the grenade and prevented from using their abilities. While it may not have the highest damage output, stunning yellow bars is much more useful. Also, 150 damage in PVP is competitive considering the added status effect.

3 Coldsnap Grenade

stasis subclasses
destiny 2 stasis subclass

It is no surprise that the stasis grenades are at the bottom of this list, as all stasis abilities are overpowered. Even after several nerfs to the hunter and warlock, stasis is still dominant. To use the stasis subclass, guardians will need the Beyond Light update. After downloading the update, the class abilities can be unlocked by playing through the Beyond Light story missions. The story will also introduce aspects, which allow players to customize their abilities while using the stasis subclass.

The coldsnap grenade is ranked third, but it is still an amazing grenade in all modes. After impacting the ground, the grenade will seek out nearby enemies and freeze them. The effects will follow players that are on the ground and within around 20 meters. In the Crucible, coldsnap will chain between multiple enemies if they are close enough. The only limitation of the grenade is that walls and objects can interfere with the grenade path.
