Summary

  • Destiny 2 players are reporting another major bug impacted by long activities or play sessions.
  • The bug can cause weapons to go invisible, debuffs and status effects to stop working, and animations to break completely.
  • Bungie has responded to these new reports, asking for as much player data as possible to find the source.

Destiny 2 players began reporting a strange bug that seems to impact players during longer activities like The Nether or those who play for lengthier periods of time. The situation has put a damper on the start of Episode Heresy which has seemingly been a positive for most Destiny 2 players to this point.

Destiny 2 has had no shortage of bugs and other issues as of late. In fact, the previous episode, Revenant, had major issues that impacted the player base, including one which prevented certain Destiny 2 weapons from dropping with specific perk sets. In addition, players also discovered another problem with tonics not providing the associated buff, instead increasing the drop rate for the wrong weapon. While Bungie has been able to fix these issues and reward players, the studio seems to have another player found issue that is starting to ruin play sessions.

Reports on the Destiny 2 subreddit have begun circulating, leaving many confused and frustrated. Specifically, a post from Scrin1759 highlights the core problems experienced by themselves and other high-profile players like Esoterickk. There have been a variety of issues reported while playing longform activities like Destiny 2's Nether, from certain perks like Devour or Cure simply no longer working, weapons going invisible, debuffs no longer applying to enemies, and even certain 3rd person animations from finishers or class abilities just staying in a first-person perspective.

Bungie Responds to New Destiny 2 Bug

Players aren't sure how or why this new bug is happening, with some indicating that it could happen during long solo play sessions, while others have reported seeing it during activities like the Nether or dungeons like Destiny 2's newest one with Sundered Doctrine. Some theorize that Destiny 2 is tracking too many effects and just stops working, leading to a potential memory issue. Regardless, Bungie is looking into the problem, responding to the post and asking for more data from players to help pinpoint where the bug is happening. Many have provided additional details while Scrin1759 was able to post a video of the issue happening within a lost sector.

Unfortunately for players, this rise in bugs and other issues has only seemed to escalate as of late. Just recently, reports began surfacing that the Episode Heresy update seemingly broke other aspects of Destiny 2. Players catching up on older activities indicated that Onslaught: Salvation, Kell's Fall, and others are not functioning as expected. Thankfully, Bungie has listed many of these bugs as known issues, so hopefully a fix is on the way.
