The launch of The Edge of Fate brought about a lot of changes to the core mechanics of Destiny 2, and one such affected mechanic is ammo generation. Instead of being completely random, ammo brick drops are now a bit more deterministic, and players should now have more ways to top their munitions off while fending off hordes of enemies.

Every gun post-Edge of Fate comes with an Ammo Generation stat, and this can drastically affect how players use their weapons in Destiny 2. This guide covers how this Ammo Generation stat works, as well as some tips on how to make the most out of it.

Destiny 2: The Invitation Walkthrough (Edge of Fate Mission #1)

It's time to start The Edge of Fate in Destiny 2, and here's a comprehensive walkthrough of the very first mission players will take on Kepler.

What Does Ammo Generation Do in Destiny 2?

Destiny 2 Ammo Generation Stat description

Ammo Generation refers to how quickly a weapon can fill up the Special and Heavy Ammo bars found at the bottom-left side of the screen. Once these bars are filled, an ammo brick of the corresponding type will pop out of the next enemy you defeat.

The higher the Ammo Generation stat, the quicker these bars will fill. There are a few things to keep in mind, though:

  • All weapons (except Swords) can contribute to the build-up of the ammo meters.
  • Primary weapons generate the most ammo out of all weapon types.
  • Special and Heavy weapons generate more ammo for the ammo type that they do not use.
  • Ammo meter progress only increases when you defeat enemies, not when you damage them.

How to Increase Ammo Generation in Destiny 2

Destiny 2 Solar Ammo Generation mod

Apart from just using weapons with better Ammo Generation, you can make your ammo meters progress faster by using mods or perks. If you're using a Legendary weapon, you can use the Bandolier and Abundant Ammo mods to increase their Ammo Generation stat. Otherwise, perks like Impromptu Ammunition can boost Ammo Generation for all of your weapons.

As far as Destiny 2 armor mods go, you can install Ammo Generation Chest mods. These will boost the Ammo Generation for weapons of a specific element. Meanwhile, Ammo Finder Helmet mods make anything that increases your ammo meter more effective.

Alternatively, you can install Scavenger mods in your leg armor — Scavenger mods won't increase Ammo Generation, but they'll make it so that you get more bullets per ammo brick you pick up.

Additionally, the Weapon stat in your armor will give you a chance to get more bullets per ammo brick, but only if the stat exceeds 100. The higher your total Weapons stat, the bigger the chance you have at getting more ammo (and you'll deal more damage to bosses and Guardians too).
