The Doomed Petitioner is a Linear Fusion Rifle from Destiny 2's Season of the Wish that's caught the eye of many Guardians. Not only does it have the potential to be one of the best in its class, but it's also much easier to get compared to other meta picks.

While the Doomed Petitioner might not be a must-have for players who already have god roll Linear Fusion Rifles, it's definitely a weapon that everyone else should have in their vaults. Here's an overview of this gun's recommended god rolls as well as a quick comparison between it and some other popular picks in its category.

As a heavy weapon, the perk rolls for Doomed Petitioner only truly matter in the PvE scene, and the absolute best roll you can get for it is anything that includes Reconstruction and Precision Instrument. The former constantly reloads and overflows the gun's magazine while the latter increases its Precision Hit damage by up to 25%.

The ideal Doomed Petitioner should have both of these perks together, though just having one or the other should suffice. It's not the end of the world if you get a different perk in one column, but should that be the case, keep an eye out for these:

  • Keep Away: This perk is great for long-ranged precision weapons since it improves accuracy and reload speed. However, it might not be as useful in certain boss fights and encounters that include swarms of melee enemies.
  • Threat Detector/Surrounded: These two work hand-in-hand to buff the weapon's Stability, Reload Speed, Handling, and damage in situations where melee enemies are plenty. Surrounded buffs the weapon's damage by 40%, which is stronger than Precision Instrument at the cost of having a less reliable trigger.
  • Golden Tricorn: This perk can buff the Doomed Petitioner's damage by a whopping 50%, though this is only achievable in encounters with high mob densities. Also, getting two stacks of Golden Tricorn up at all times can be tricky since the perk needs kills with abilities.

The closest competitor the Doomed Petitioner has is Briar's Contempt, another Aggressive Frame Linear Fusion Rifle that can only be obtained from the Root of Nightmares raid. Both weapons can roll with Reconstruction and a damage perk on the fourth column. However, Doomed Petitioner has the advantage of dropping from seasonal activities. Players can randomly get a copy of this gun after a Riven's Lair or Coil run, or they can focus their seasonal engrams at the HELM for a shot at getting a god roll. It can also be crafted once enough Patterns have been collected, much like Briar's Contempt.

Numbers-wise, Precision Instrument is what gives Doomed Petitioner its edge over Briar's Contempt. The latter doesn't have any damage perks that buff its damage beyond 20% outside of Surrounded and Adagio. However, the difference between DPS values is only ~5-10%, which means players don't necessarily have to fuss about getting a god roll Doomed Petitioner of they already have a good Briar's Contempt.
