Scout rifle users rejoice: there’s a new Exotic scout rifle in Destiny 2. Players who own the Season: Reclamation premium Rewards Pass for Destiny 2’s Edge of Fate expansion can immediately claim the new Third Iteration Exotic scout rifle just in time to take it for a test drive through the expansion’s new campaign, while players who don’t own the premium Rewards Pass will need to reach Season Level 70 to unlock this weapon.
As far as the current meta goes, this new Exotic in Destiny 2 can arguably compete with some of the best Exotic primary weapons. For players who want to make this weapon even stronger, though, Hunters have a perfect Exotic armor to pair it with. More specifically, the new Third Iteration scout rifle and Hunters’ Gyrfalcon's Hauberk Exotic are a match made in heaven.
Destiny 2's New Bane Modifiers Are Delicious Slices of a Roguelike Pie
Destiny 2 doubling down on Banes and other difficulty modifiers in The Edge of Fate expansion is a sweet treat for roguelike fans.
Destiny 2’s New Third Iteration Exotic Weapon Fits Hunters’ Meta Builds Like a Glove
With Destiny 2’s Armor 3.0 update in The Edge of Fate expansion, the new armor stats are a double-edged sword, especially for Hunters. While the new Weapons stat seems like a convenient improvement from the old Armor 2.0 meta, the removal of the Mobility stat has severely affected Hunters’ PvP meta builds in Destiny 2, and their overall class identity.
Destiny 2’s Armor 3.0 Update Puts Hunter PvP Builds in an Awkward Position
The old Mobility stat provided increased movement speed and improved class ability regeneration for Hunters, while the new Armor 3.0 Class stat provides improved class ability regeneration and an overshield when activated. This means that there’s no longer a universal source for increased movement speed. Hunters can still technically improve their movement speed through the use of certain Exotics, but this is a much steeper investment cost compared to the old Mobility stat’s passive nature.
In the Edge of Fate expansion's new meta, Hunters arguably can’t rely on their superior mobility to gain an advantage in PvP game modes anymore. Fortunately, Hunters still have other strengths to capitalize on, which is where the combo of the new Third Iteration scout rifle and the Gyrafalcon’s Hauberk Exotic comes into play.
What Do Third Iteration’s Exotic Perks Do?
- Tri-Planar Mass Driver: Fires a spread of Void projectiles. Aiming down sights (ADS) narrows the spread.
- Amalgamation Rounds: ADS for a short period without firing loads a special projectile, which marks targets. Marked targets take additional damage from this weapon. Killing a market target or getting a precision kill with the Amalgamation Round grants Invisibility and Truesight.
What Does Gyrfalcon's Hauberk’s Exotic Perk Do?
- See Me, Feel Me: Void weapons gain Volatile Rounds after you emerge from being Invisible. While Invisible, defeating a target with a Finisher improves all weapons’ damage and provides a reserve overshield and improved class ability regeneration to all nearby allies. Using a class ability deploys the reserve overshield.
This Exotic Combo in Destiny 2 Gives Hunters Stability After a Massive Meta Shift
The Third Iteration scout rifle is all about triggering Truesight and Invisibility, and buffing the weapon’s damage, while the Gyrfalcon's Hauberk armor is all about providing personal and team-wide buffs whenever the player turns Invisible. Since the Gyrfalcon's Hauberk is exclusive to Hunters, players who main this character class can use this Exotic armor and weapon combo to gain an edge in Destiny 2’s PvP game modes, something Hunters could desperately use right now after the removal of the Mobility stat.
Truesight alone is an incredible utility to have in PvP, so all the added benefits of this build are practically overkill. Otherwise, Hunter players can use this Exotic weapon and armor combo in PvE content to take the Hunters’ support-role capabilities to the next level, potentially rivaling Warlocks’ healing capabilities with Hunters’ expertise in triggering Invisibility and damage buffs.
