Destiny 2 is on a path to recovery after the many issues and controversies of the early Lightfall era, and Bungie has proven to still have that spark that made its looter-shooter one of the best live-service titles out there. Sure enough, Destiny 2's The Final Shape is doing just as much, with Bungie granting long-time wishes from the community at large in order to close out the Light and Darkness saga with a bang.
Pleasing the community with changes and additions is one of the elements that made Destiny 2's live-service approach successful in the first place, and while Bungie can't do this at all times, the end of its 10-year saga does feel like the perfect moment to do so. Destiny 2's Into The Light granted several wishes already, at least for a substantial chunk of the community, and they include:
- The Onslaught horde and tower defense mode
- The return of D1's Superblack shader
- The return of various iconic Destiny 2 weapons

Still, there are many wishes The Final Shape's June 4 release will grant immediately, and some more as time passes. So far, the list includes multiple new or returning Destiny 2 features, such as:
- A new enemy faction, The Dread
- Unsunsetting weapons that were removed with Beyond Light
- The return of Cayde-6
- The return of the Khvostov 7G-0X Exotic auto rifle
- The addition of Prismatic subclasses in Destiny 2
- The return of D1's Exotic class items, this time tied to Prismatic
This is a lot for Destiny 2's The Final Shape to add, and it may not even be the full list, as Bungie may disclose more news bits as the release date approaches. This is great for many Destiny 2 fans, as they are getting at least a couple of their wishes granted with the expansion, and it shows Bungie can deliver when it needs it the most. A new enemy faction was only ever added with The Taken King in D1 and then Forsaken in Destiny 2, for example, and the weapon sunsetting of Beyond Light was generally frowned upon.
Likewise, Cayde-6 is likely one of the most beloved characters franchise-wide, and his demise in Forsaken was a big selling point of the expansion, as Guardians wanted to be there with him when his Light went out. Another nostalgia-hitter is Khvostov 7G-0X, a gun that was very popular in the original Destiny, and one that many have been wanting to see in Destiny 2 for a while. Crowned as the ultimate power fantasy, Destiny 2's new Prismatic subclasses fuse all elements in the game, giving players the ability to choose between Aspects and abilities from existing subclasses.

While all this may be exciting for The Final Shape, there is also a chance that the future of Destiny 2 is not going to be long and prosperous, given the rumors regarding Destiny 3 from what seems a reliable source. More importantly, Destiny 2's slew of new content may very well seem like a swan song for the game, going out with a bang before its successor launches and takes all the glory. This is unconfirmed and just speculation for the time being, so there is a chance that Bungie is simply trying to appease fans after a few downfalls, like that of Lightfall's launch state.
