Ice Breaker is known as one of the most powerful weapons from Destiny 1, and like Gjallahorn, Bungie has reworked it and added it back into Destiny 2. As such, it works a bit differently from what day-one Destiny players may remember it as, but it's still a powerful drop that you can get in the new Revenant episode.
Thankfully, you won't have to solve any cryptic puzzles to get it, but be warned now that it's going to be a grind. There are some ways to make it easier, which are covered below, but the Ice Breaker is not something that will fall into your hands easily.
Destiny 2: All new Revenant Exotics and How to Get Them
Destiny 2's Revenant season has brought some new exotics for Guardians. Here's how to get all of them and what they do.
How to get the Ice Breaker
To get Ice Breaker in Destiny 2, you need to complete the final encounter of Vesper's Host. Once you're done, there's a chance that you'll drop it as part of the rewards for completing the dungeon.
Like other dungeons that have exclusive exotics, it's not guaranteed to drop when you defeat the final boss, and it only has a chance to drops once per week per character. So, you can't do the dungeon over and over again to farm it. The weekly reset will let you try again, but if you want, you can also complete the dungeon on three different characters for three chances to drop it instead of one.
How to Increase Drop Rate for Ice Breaker
The good news is that your chances of dropping Ice Breaker increase each time you don't get it. So, even though it may be a grind at the start, you are guaranteed to get the weapon at some point. Aside from this and trying to get it on three different characters, there is one other way to increase your chances of dropping the weapon. Some of the Vesper's Host Triumphs also give an increased chance for Ice Breaker to drop once you've completed them:
- Alone in the Dark: Complete all encounters in the Vesper's Host dungeon solo without leaving the activity.
- Stationmaster: Complete Vesper's Host on Master difficulty.
- Buried Secrets: Find all dungeon collectibles.
These triumphs are not easy to obtain, though, so you may find that you drop Ice Breaker on the way to unlocking them.
Ice Breaker Perk Changes
In the first Destiny, Ice Breaker's perk regenerated ammo constantly. This essentially made it an infinite ammo machine that was excellent for higher-tier activities. This has changed coming into Destiny 2.
Now, with the new "No Backpack" perk, Ice Breaker regenerates ammo if you get final blows or assists with other weapons. Any powerful combatants defeated will also create multiple rounds, so it's easy to get your 10 rounds back easily once you've used them. Essentially, you can still get infinite ammo for it, but it takes more time.
Additionally, Ice Breaker has a second "Ice Breaker" perk that causes targets defeated with the weapon to explode. Precision final blows or shattering a frozen target causes them to ignite, which spreads Scorch to other enemies. All in all, it's still a really strong weapon that's fantastic for PvE activities, and it's worth the time it takes to get from Vesper's Host.
