For the first time in a decade, Bungie has introduced a new vehicle class for Destiny players, allowing Guardians to ditch their Sparrows and head into the unknown with a hoverboard. The brand-new Skimmer vehicle in Destiny 2 is beyond perfect, and players can use these vehicles to grind on rails, fly, and commit to some pretty sick tricks. The Destiny 2 hoverboard is a joy, and luckily, everyone can get it for free, if they know how.

Destiny 2: All Raids, Ranked

Raids are some of the most rewarding, engaging, and challenging content that Destiny 2 has to offer, but which of them ranks as the best?

The Skimmers act a lot like the Cloud Striders’ skyboard, and these surfboard-like devices can now become a vital part of the arsenal of Guardians all over the Sol system thanks to their introduction in Guardian Games 2024. Whilst preparation for The Final Shape draws ever closer, why not head into the Traveler and fight the Witness in style thanks to this radical sci-fi skateboard?

Complete Eva Levante’s Best In Class Quest

completing best in class quest from eva

In order to start the process of getting the Skimmer, players need to head to The Tower and visit Eva Levante, who is hosting the annual Guardian Games. When players first speak with Eva, they will receive a Titan Mark / Warlock Bond / Hunter Cloak depending on their class, and then they can obtain the Best In Class quest. This is a relatively straightforward quest, and players will simply need to equip the Class Item that they just acquired (which can be repurchased if dismantled), and then purchase any bounty card from Eva and head off to complete a Guardian Games playlist activity or Supremacy match with said Class Item still equipped.

The Guardian Games playlist activities can be found in the directory within The Tower, and completing either a Guardian Games Nightfall or a match of Supremacy will send players to the next step, which is to head back to The Tower and speak with Eva again.

Eva will gift players a Medallion Case, which is where they will store their Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond Medallions. After this, they need to deposit the Medallions they would have received for completing the Guardian Games activity with their Class Item equipped, over at the Podium behind Eva in the Tower Courtyard.

Once the Medallions have been deposited, head over to Zavala in the Tower and acquire the Shoot to Score quest.

Then, speak with Lord Shaxx in the Tower and receive the Vying For Supremacy quest.

After conversing with these two Titan leaders, head back to Eva Levante at the Tower, who will give players a limited-time event version of the Allstar Vector Skimmer. Not to worry though, as she’ll also give players the Drop In quest, which will allow them to permanently unlock the Allstar Vector for use outside of Guardian Games 2024.

How To Keep The Skimmer

drop in quest in destiny 2

In order to keep the first Skimmer players unlocked, they will need to pick up the Drop In quest from Eva Levante. Once this quest has been acquired, they need to finish only one of the three objectives of this quest. The Drop In quest objectives are as follows:

  • Medallion Score 0/1,200
  • Earn a top 10% score in Nightfall challenges.
  • Open your Focus Activity winners packages. 0/3

Completing any one of these objectives will unlock the Allstar Vector, an Exotic Skimmer that will remain in players’ inventory forever as part of their vehicles. If players fail to complete these objectives before the end of Guardian Games 2024, then they will lose the chance to earn the free Skimmer in Destiny 2.

Alternatively, Purchase The Gjallarheart Gear Bundle

If players do not want to embark on Eva’s Guardian Games quest, or they just want to keep a permanent Skimmer now without the grind, then they can head to the Eververse store, Destiny 2’s in-game store page, and purchase the Gjallarheart Gear Bundle. This bundle requires virtual currency, Silver, which is purchased with real money. Players will need to spend 2,500 Silver, which is the equivalent of around $30 (USD).

For purchasing the Gjallarheart Gear Bundle, players will receive a few items themed after the famous exotic rocket launcher, Gjallahorn, including:

  • Winged Wolf (Skimmer Vehicle)
  • Sessrumnir (Ship)
  • Heimdal Shell (Ghost Shell)
  • Warrior’s Iron (Shader)

If players did not complete the Guardian Games 2024 quest to obtain the Skimmer, then purchasing this bundle may be their only option, but there may be more Skimmers in the future, yet that remains to be seen. For now, players have until 09:59 AM PDT on March 26, 2024, to complete their Guardian Games missions to claim the Allstar Vector in Destiny 2.

How To Use The Skimmer

allstar vector skimmer

The Skimmer is a lot of fun and features a few notable changes from the Sparrows of old. Not only will players be able to stand on this vehicle like a hoverboard, but its movement works vastly differently. Players do not need to expel energy when using the boost function or dodge rolls, and they can also hit R2/Shift to take to the air and press Circle/B/Ctrl to grind on the air. The grind function is absurdly fun and allows players to skip large gaps due to the fact that they can essentially fly now. Using air jumps and grinding on air will expel energy, so be sure to replenish by landing, or by summoning a new Skimmer before falling. Players have already been using this strategy to skip certain sections, like the Prophecy Dungeon’s Deadsea jumping puzzle.
