The Taraxippos is Destiny 2's first-ever Strand scout rifle, and it's coming in hot with a pool of high-value perks for PvE and PvP. This gun may look similar to the Hung Jury SR4, but it performs completely differently under the hood.
Scout Rifles have always been good in difficult Destiny 2 Nightfalls and Raids, and players will want to have one that they can reliably use whenever they tackle this sort of content. The Taraxippos in particular, can shred PvE enemies with its 200 RPM fire rate, and while the Lightweight archetype of scout rifles isn't particularly popular in the Crucible, it's got some perk options that can turn a few heads in its direction. Here's an overview of the gun, including how to get it and some recommended perk rolls for it.
How to Get the Taraxippos
The Taraxippos is a Guardian Games exclusive gun, which means players will have to participate in Season of Defiance's rerun of the event if they want to snag one of these scout rifles for themselves.
To get this weapon, players only need to play the game's core playlists (Strikes, Crucible, Gambit), Neptune activities, Defiant Battlegrounds, Raids, and Nightfalls. The Taraxippos has a random chance of dropping while Guardian Games is ongoing, so players should be able to get at least a few copies of it while they're going about their daily business.
Medals can be deposited in any of the podium at the Tower for a shot at extra loot too. They can be earned from any of the game modes listed above, with harder content rewarding higher-value Gold and Platinum medals. Players must have a Guardian Games class item equipped in order to earn medals.
Recommended Taraxippos Rolls
The Taraxippos is stacked with top-tier scout rifle perks for both PvE and PvP, and it's already poised to become one of the best guns in its category. Players can use almost any combination and still have an effective gun in their hands. However, there are some standout rolls that everyone should look out for:
- PvE God Roll - Fourth Time's The Charm, Explosive Payload/Focused Fury
- PVP God Roll - Hammer-forged Rifling, Accurized Rounds, Zen Moment, Keep Away/Kill Clip
Fourth Time's The Charm is great on any precision weapon—even more so when paired with a damage perk like Explosive Payload or Focused Fury. Guardians will be able to lay on the trigger with this perk combo and demolish any red bar enemies coming their way, especially in high-difficulty content light Grandmaster Nightfalls and Master Raids. Hatchling is a good alternative for low-mid-level content.
Meanwhile, despite Lightweight Frame scouts not being too competitive in PvP, the Taraxippos can pull its weight by being an extremely consistent, long-range dueling weapon. Zen Moment can keep players on target while Keep Away gives them an extra accuracy bump to win duels. The latter can be swapped for Kill Clip, which will allow the Taraxippos to kill any Guardian with three Precision Hits regardless of Resilience level.
Destiny 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
