Solstice 2025 has rolled around, following the release of Destiny 2's Edge of Fate expansion. This year's summer event is a little bit different in feel and flavor, since the game's systems have undergone massive changes in the last month. You can expect to find all the new quirks in Solstice 2025 as well, from Tiered armor to a special reward track and daily and weekly challenges. If you'd like more information on Solstice 2025, check out the comprehensive event guide here.
As for the weapons, players are in for a treat this year. A Strand aerial denial frame grenade launcher makes its debut, with a powerful god roll combination, but Yeartide Apex, a Solar SMG, is also looking extremely interesting. This SMG comes to challenge others in its element and archetype, possibly even putting iconic options like the Calus Mini-Tool to shame. Here's how to earn it and what the most wanted perks are.
How to Get Yeartide Apex
Bonfire Bash is gone, but the good news is that players have more control than ever this year on how they wish to earn their Solstice rewards and loot. Now, all you need to do is head over to the Portal and look for activities that include a bonus reward called Distorted Solstice Engram. This means the activity will drop Solstice loot. All activities from Solo to Pinnacle Ops are included, so there's something for everyone.
Destiny 2: Festival Flight God Roll
Festival Flight is an aerial denial Strand grenade launcher available during Solstice 2025 in Destiny 2. Here's what rolls to go for.
There's also the Solstice reward track, which comes with a few weapon engrams. You can advance it by completing weekly and daily challenges.
Be sure to also check the Play Now section for the Solstice event to see what kind of special activities drop even more bonus Solstice loot. For now, the easiest way is to just load up a Solo Ops activity on repeat, provided it has the engram icon.

Yeartide Apex PVE God Roll
The ideal roll for Yeartide Apex is without a doubt the Tier 5 Holofoil, which comes with three different perk options in the third and fourth columns. The most important perk to look out for is Incandescent, and any perk combination that drops with it is generally a serviceable weapon. This is a Lightweight Frame SMG, so while Handling is usually for most weapons in the game a go-to focus for stats, Handling is already so high here that other options have been considered for this suggested god roll.

Here, the third column isn't fully set in stone. Attrition Orbs is incredibly powerful in difficulty PVE content due to its ability to print Orbs of Power on demand with sustained damage, which SMGs are great for. However, for some, Heal Clip might be a better play here, and works especially well with the Ember of Benevolence fragment for Solar or just to provide a bit more healing overall for a build. Incandescent remains the non-negotiable perk.
Yeartide Apex PVP God Roll
While the PVE perk options are a lot more interesting than the PVP ones, there is a perk combination that is worth mentioning. Here's a suggestion for those looking to bring this into the Crucible:
- Barrel: Smallbore
- Magazine: Flared Magwell
- Perk 1: Lone Wolf
- Perk 2: Target Lock
