Destiny 2’s PlayStation Collaboration Can Go Even Further

Destiny 2 is no stranger to crossovers, as Bungie’s MMO RPG hybrid has teamed up with massive names like Assassin’s Creed and Fortnite over the years. Following Sony’s purchase of Bungie, many felt like a natural option for another big crossover would be PlayStation and its many beloved exclusives. Sure enough, Bungie delivered, as Season of the Deep is bringing with it some amazing new cosmetics to collect.

Bungie has nailed its tributes to some of the biggest PlayStation properties, with Titans, Warlocks, and Hunters all able to get in on the fun with a class-exclusive armor set. Titans can become the Ghost of Sparta himself, donning armor that features Kratos’ iconic red tattoo. Warlock’s can pay tribute to Ghost of Tsushima's Jin Sakai by dressing as a Samurai, while Hunters can wear Horizon-themed armor with beads, a Focus, and machine parts. All of this is capped off with an awesome fungus-covered Ghost meant to resemble a Clicker from The Last of Us, though Bungie can certainly keep going with PlayStation crossovers if it wants to.

Destiny 2 PlayStation Crossovers That Could Still Happen

When thinking about the franchises that Bungie did not hit on its first PlayStation collaboration, and those that would fit the Destiny 2 universe the best, Death Stranding should immediately come to mind. Alongside a BB pod Ghost, it is easy to think of cosmetics for every Destiny 2 class. Titans can take on the look of the package-stealing MULEs, while Warlocks could wear Fragile’s iconic jacket. Hunters would luck out due to their hoods, as they could either have a Bridges hood to protect from Timefall or, preferably, a design inspired by Higgs and his golden mask.

Bungie could also dig deeper with one of the four properties in the existing crossover, The Last of Us. Thanks to the rise in popularity of the IP following the successful HBO series, interest is at an all-time high. A fungus-covered Ghost is a nice gesture, but that same approach could work wonders for skins. While it would make little sense to throw a Hunter into Joel’s flannel shirt, fungus-covered armor for the three classes could look incredible. The sets could even be modeled off of infected types, such as a Titan inspired by Bloaters.

However, the biggest untapped opportunity when it comes to the PlayStation collaboration is Ghost Shells based on the company’s many mascots. While Spyro the Dragon and Crash Bandicoot Shells will not happen since those franchises are now tied to Activision, Ratchet and Clank, Sly Cooper, and Jak and Daxter characters would all make for adorable shells. Modern mascots like Sackboy and Astro Bot could also be represented, with a Ghost sporting a Zipper for the former and an antenna for the latter.

PlayStation’s forgotten first-person shooters would make for good cosmetics if they ever get a chance, as it is easy to imagine a Warlock with a Chimera head from Resistance or a Titan donning the full Helghast armor from Killzone. Other forgotten properties like Infamous and Days Gone could be interesting, with the signature outfit of Cole MacGrath sure to be a good skin and Deacon St. John’s motorcycle having the potential to be a memorable sparrow.

With PlayStation working on some new IPs, and other franchises like Twisted Metal going unmentioned, Bungie could continue with this new collaboration for several Seasons in a row of it wants to. Whether that actually happens is unclear, but hopefully a Death Stranding partnership is in the works at the very least. Of all the options, that one feels the most promising, and it could be a perfect way to hype up Death Stranding 2’s release further down the line.
