Thanks to a creative Destiny 2 player, Fallout 4's Preston Garvey has come to the aid of another settlement, namely The Last City. The costume was created using the versatile Destiny 2 armor customization system, transforming a Warlock Guardian into the familiar Fallout 4 companion.

Fallout 4 and the Destiny games are very different, but they're surprisingly similar in certain select ways. They're both first-person shooters that incorporate RPG-style progression, and are of similar age, at least if one counts Destiny and Destiny 2 as a single ongoing title. They're also surprisingly open to player expression, what with the deep support for Fallout 4 mods, and Destiny 2's increasingly robust armor customization system.

One player, who goes by Pretend-Money9035 on Reddit, used that same customization system to further Fallout 4 and Destiny's connection. They recreated the iconic Fallout 4 companion Preston Garvey using a custom Destiny 2 costume, sharing it with the DestinyFashion subreddit. Using the game's deep bench of cosmetic options, they recreated Preston's appearance using parts meant for a Warlock Guardian.

Destiny 2 Preston Garvey Costume Brings a Touch of Fallout 4 to The Last City

Destiny 2 Preston Garvey Costume Parts (Warlock)

  • Head: TM-Moss Custom Hat (Aces Full of Kings Shader)
  • Arms: Veiled Tithes Gloves (Gamekeeper Shader)
  • Chest: Wrath Trail Robes (Long Journeys Shader)
  • Legs: Solstice Boots Rekindled (Cayde's Duds Shader)
  • Class Item: Homeward Warlock Bond (Gamekeeper Shader)

The centerpiece of Pretend-Money9035's costume is Preston Garvey's telltale Minuteman hat, recreated using the TM-Moss Custom Hat cosmetic from the Destiny 2 Spire of the Watcher dungeon. With its pinned brim, the hat evokes the hat favored by the Fallout 4 Commonwealth Minutemen, who themselves are inspired by the American revolutionary-era militia organization. Preston Garvey's long colonial-style coat strikes a similar style, ably recreated by the Wrath Trail robes from Destiny 2 Season 9.

Fellow Destiny 2 players were quite impressed by the creation, calling it one of the best Fallout Destiny 2 costumes they'd seen yet. A few commenters humorously referenced Preston Garvey's obsession with helping settlements, joking that a Fallout 4 player would have a very long walk ahead of them were Preston to randomly mark The Last City on their Pip-Boy map as yet another settlement to aid.

A few made suggestions for a potential Preston Garvey-themed character build to go with the costume, thinking through the potential of trying to role-play in Destiny 2 as the last of the Commonwealth Minutemen. They said such a build would likely be based around long-range Destiny 2 weapons like sniper and scout rifles, as well as "laser-like" weapons like the beam-firing trace rifle, a reference to Preston's love of the Fallout 4 Laser Musket weapon.
