Summary

  • Riven's Wishes in Destiny 2 offer weekly quests with high-risk objectives, allowing players to earn Wish Tokens and choose from various prizes.
  • The loot table for Riven's Wishes includes Exotic armor, event-themed loot, materials, and raid weapons, providing a lot of value and addressing FOMO.
  • Riven's Wishes add weekly content to the game during a quieter period, keeping players engaged and building goodwill ahead of The Final Shape expansion.

Destiny 2 has been in a strange spot during Season of the Wish, with it being praised for having one of (if not the) best seasonal activities ever with The Coil, but falling a bit flat with its Dreaming City quests. From one of the best Dungeons in the game with Warlord's Ruin to Bungie reusing multiple assets and older activities to further Season of the Wish's story, the road to Destiny 2's The Final Shape is a bit bumpy, and the game needs a win wherever possible. Luckily, this week's TWID post announced a new type of weekly mission called Riven's Wishes, and they seek to fix two big problems with Destiny 2 at the moment.

It's no mystery that Destiny 2 needs to win players' trust back after the layoffs of last year, the several controversies regarding paid items, The Final Shape's delay to June 2024, and Lightfall's disappointing release. This may be easier said than done, however, as the long-running live-service title has multiple recurring issues that need addressing, but that doesn't mean Bungie can realistically solve all of them before The Final Shape, especially with Season of the Wish being the longest ever at over 6 months. Still, Riven's Wishes may help in a big way.

Destiny 2: Riven's Wishes Explained

What Destiny 2 Players Can Get With Riven's Wishes

Riven's Wishes are a way for the legendary Destiny 2 Ahamkara to repay the Guardian for their efforts in securing her eggs, and they consist of weekly quests that players can accept from Mara Sov. These missions are described as having high-risk objectives, with examples being Legend Lost Sectors and Dungeons, and they grant a Wish Token upon completion. Then, players can redeem their Wish Token to choose prizes from three different categories, which include red-border Last Wish Raid weapons, Exotic armor pieces, and miscellaneous items.

Destiny 2: Riven's Wishes Loot Table Explained

The Destiny 2 Exotic armor available varies based on the three different classes' own items. Each class can use the Wish Token for one of four Exotics, with them being:

  • Speedloader Slacks (Hunter)
  • Cyrtarachne's Facade (Hunter)
  • Triton Vice (Hunter)
  • Mothkeeper's Wraps (Hunter)
  • Cadmus Ridge Lancecap (Titan)
  • Abeyant Leap (Titan)
  • Arbor Warden (Titan)
  • Pyrogale Gauntlets (Titan)
  • Ballidorse Wrathweavers (Warlock)
  • Swarmers (Warlock)
  • Cenotaph Mask (Warlock)
  • Briarbinds (Warlock)

As for the miscellaneous items, players can count on a selection of event-themed loot as well as materials. These include:

  • Lost Memento (from Festival of the Lost)
  • Dawning Memento (from the Dawning)
  • Ascendant Shards x2
  • Ascendant Alloy x2
  • Exotic Cipher

Why Destiny 2's Weekly Wishes Are Great Against FOMO and Content Drought

The reason why all these items are good to have is that they either help players fight FOMO, such as with the event Mementos or Destiny 2's craftable Raid weapons from Last Wish, or they can be a good way to get guaranteed Exotics or materials one might need. A common argument within the game is that "players have to be there" if they want loot or otherwise exclusive items from certain high-end activities or time-gated ones, so it's a good change of pace that builds goodwill to see Bungie let players (even those who never completed Last Wish) get red-border Raid guns essentially for free.

Another reason why Riven's Wishes are an amazing addition to the game before Destiny 2's The Final Shape is released is that they provide weekly content for players to run in an otherwise "dead" time of the year for a 6-month season. With Moments of Triumph coming soon, and then Destiny 2's Into the Light feature in April, Riven's Wishes are just what the game needs to keep the grind alive and keep players engaged ahead of the saga-ending expansion that is going to be The Final Shape in June.
