Alongside the Titan version of the Contact event and the first steps of the Exodus quest, Destiny 2 introduced a new exotic weapon quest this week. Ruinous Effigy is a new exotic trace rifle added to the Destiny 2 collection that is sure to offer some fun uses in both PvE and PvP. It's a unique exotic that is strong in its own right, but also has some abilities that can benefit a fireteam.

How to Get the Ruinous Effigy Catalyst

In order to fully take advantage of the Ruinous Effigy, though, Destiny 2 players will need the exotic catalyst for the trace rifle. To get the Ruinous Effigy exotic catalyst, players need only kill an enemy with the weapon and then pick up the Transmutation sphere that forms. It's similar to the bloom orbs that Destiny 2 players use to turn the Contact Event Heroic, only it has a void aura and can actually be used as a weapon.

How to Use the Transmutation Sphere

With the Transmutation Sphere in hand, Destiny 2 players can light attack or heavy attack an enemy to deal damage. The light attack smashes the sphere against an enemy, while the heavy attack is like a smash that sends out a wave of energy around the player.

In addition, players can hold the aim button to trigger an aura of damaging energy that surrounds the player. Walking around with the Transmutation sphere active can wipe out a larger group of enemies, but it also depletes the sphere's “ammo” more quickly.

All on its own, the Ruinous Effigy is a very unique exotic weapon for Destiny 2, but the catalyst makes it even stronger. With the Catalyst active, the Transmutation spheres will put a debuff on any enemy touched by its attacks or aura. In essence, the spheres have the effect of the Divinity Trace Rifle, but anyone can pick them up and use them.

To complete the Ruinous Effigy exotic catalyst, players need to fill a percentage bar one of two ways. They can complete the catalyst the old fashioned way, by getting kills, but it's a slow process. Filling the Ruinous Effigy catalyst bar will require 5,000 kills this way.

Where to Find Savathun's Eyes

The other, faster route is to destroy about 30 Savathun Eyes, which are scattered around the Destiny 2 Solar System. Destiny 2 players have likely seen some of the Savathun Eyes while playing in Season of Arrivals, but have been unable to damage them. Now, with Ruinous Effigy in their hands, they can destroy the Savathun Eyes.

There are a total of 50 Savathun Eyes to find, but players shouldn't need to destroy all of them. While searching for the Eyes, we recommend still using the Ruinous Effigy to get kills, which will speed up the process a tiny bit.

Destiny 2 content creator and challenge runner Esoterickk has created a very helpful video that shows the Savathun Eye locations and where to find them. Use it for reference and pick the Destinations that seem the easiest.

Once the Ruinous Effigy Catalyst is complete, Destiny 2 players can continue to destroy all of the Savathun Eyes if they wish. There is a Season of Arrivals Triumph connected to destroying all 50, so if players want this season's Forerunner Title they should go for them all.

Either way, Ruinous Effigy is made a lot better because of the exotic. When running the Contact event or doing PvE activities, the debuff from the Transmutation Spheres is a huge boon for all nearby players. It's also something different to use an orb to whack some enemies.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
