Bungie has revealed a massive weapon balancing update coming to Destiny 2 on its official blog. This will take effect from the upcoming Destiny 2 Season 22, which will be unveiled at next week’s Destiny 2 showcase.

Destiny 2 offers a plethora of weapons to the players that have different perks, archetypes, and ammo. Pulse Rifles, Hand Cannons, Bows, and Fusion Rifles are just some of the weapons available in the game, which have their Rare, Legendary, and Exotic versions as well. The combination of weapons that a player uses differs in PvE and PvP modes in Destiny 2, and oftentimes players find a “meta” weapon that becomes a staple across the community in different modes. In a bid to ensure that a single type of weapon doesn’t overshadow the others, Bungie has released a massive update that will look to balance the usage of different weapons.

As posted on the official Bungie website, a new Dev Insights blog revealed the numerous changes being made to weapons in Destiny 2. It starts by explaining how the mid-season balancing update in Season 21 affected the usage of different weapons in the community, and highlighted that weapons like Immortal (Adept) will be modified further to achieve some parity with other archetypes. Next, Bungie specified how it will continue its experiments with the weapon reticles, and also explained how zoom and damage falloff on weapons will be tuned. To achieve this, Bungie is introducing “Range Compression,” which will look to reduce the average engagement range in Crucible, and will also prevent weapons from going beyond their intended range. Consequently, it is removing the damage scaling benefit received from weapon zoom, and is introducing a new stat called “Aim Down Sights (ADS) Damage Falloff Scalar,” which will be applied to all weapons experiencing damage falloff.

In addition to this, a majority of the weapon types are being reworked, where Swords are receiving a massive buff to increase their adoption rate. For instance, the Sword guard damage resistance has been substantially increased, and will now provide 82.5% to 95% damage resistance based on the weapon’s stats. Bungie has already revealed the changes being made to Exotic Armor pieces in Destiny 2 Season 22, and has now announced similar updates for Exotic weapons as well. Out of all the changes, the Monte Carlo Exotic Auto Rifle’s update was the most interesting as it now doubles as a Glaive with its new Catalyst.

Aside from this, Bungie also announced several changes to the weapon crafting system in Destiny 2. Right now, the quickest way to level up weapons in the game is by farming the Shuro Chi encounter in the Last Wish raid. However, instead of nerfing this farming method, Bungie is increasing the level progress earned from other activities. It is also reworking several weapon perks like Explosive Light, Ambush, Shoot to Loot, and others to strike a balance in their application in PvE and PvP activities.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
