The eighth year of Destiny 2 content is not only the start of a new saga for the series, but it also brings a major change to the way that players will get content going forward. Rather than just one expansion per year, you will have two expansions along with a smaller free update between them. As far as content goes, Bungie has indicated that the expansions will be on a similar scale to Rise of Iron, an expansion for Destiny released back in 2016.
Year of Prophecy kicks off with The Edge of Fate. It won't be much longer before you can investigate the mysteries of Kepler and the Nine. Here is when The Edge of Fate expansion will launch in Destiny 2.
After Edge of Fate, Destiny 2 Needs to Make a Clean Break From This Hated Feature
The Edge of Fate is promising plenty of changes to freshen up the Destiny 2 experience, but it’s left one hated feature off the table.
What Time Does Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate Release?
Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate releases on July 15th. Since this is an online game, though, you won't be able to jump in once it is midnight in your region, like you would with a single-player game. As ever with any Destiny 2 release, there is an eight-hour maintenance period where Bungie will get the servers ready for launch. This starts at 4 AM PDT (7 AM EDT). Destiny 2 will then be brought offline at 5:45 AM PDT (8:45 AM EDT).
By 6:00 AM PDT (9:00 AM EDT), the patch for The Edge of Fate content will become available for download across all platforms. If there are no maintenance delays or server issues, Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate will become available to play at 10 AM PDT (1 PM EDT).
The Final Shape experienced some major server issues upon launch, so be mindful of this if you plan to play immediately when the servers go live.
If there are no major problems, maintenance is expected to conclude by 12 PM PDT (3 PM EDT). The Edge of Fate patch will also include updates to core systems of the game, including the new World Tiers for Kepler and the Portal.
When Does the New Raid Unlock in Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate?
The new raid, The Desert Perpetual, unlocks on July 19th at 10 AM PDT (1 PM EDT). This will give players a few days to get through the campaign, improve their gear as much as possible, and get ready to take on whatever challenges await them in the new raid. No details for Power requirements have been revealed, but you will need to have completed the campaign to enter The Desert Perpetual.
