With Destiny 2’s all-time peak of 316,750 players now far behind and new all-time lows below 20,000, it’s clear that many are taking a break from it—making this a good time for gamers to take a breath and see exactly how much time they’ve spent playing Bungie's shooter on the “Time Wasted on Destiny” webpage. Destiny 2 has been around since 2017, and many players have poured countless hours into Bungie's free-to-play title—hours they can track by following a few simple steps.

Destiny 2’s live-service approach has led it to evolve quite a lot over the years, with Bungie releasing updates, expansions, and seasonal content, adding everything from new story missions and subclass systems to raids and activities for players to take on. On July 15, Destiny 2 released The Edge of Fate, introducing a bunch of new content for players. Beyond some criticism that The Edge of Fate’s campaign received, the expansion also highlighted a critical issue Destiny 2 has been consistently facing—player count drops. Although the game is still celebrated and remains a landmark for multiplayer looter-shooters, its all-time lows keep plummeting despite Bungie’s continued support. Those who have stepped away from Destiny 2 may want to know just how much time they’ve spent on it.

Destiny 2 Obviously Needs More Than Edge of Fate to Reignite Its Fire

Destiny 2’s new direction with The Edge of Fate has only just begun, but it's already met its first major hurdle thanks to one clear metric.

Through the unofficial website Time Wasted On Destiny (wastedondestiny.com), players can type in their Bungie name to find a bunch of interesting statistics about the many hours they’ve spent playing Destiny 2’s looter-shooter experience. The site only tracks the actual time spent in activities, meaning it doesn’t count time in orbit, loading screens, or login menus—which also makes the numbers more accurate than those shown by Steam, Xbox, or PlayStation.

Top Destiny 2 Players by Hours Played

The webpage also lets players view side-by-side statistics and compare theirs with a friend’s, and it even allows them to load a player's current fireteam and compare the stats. The page not only shows the time spent in recent Destiny 2 expansions—it also displays total time spent in the game, time spent on deleted characters, AFK time, Guardian Rank, triumph scores, number of titles earned, seasonal ranks, and much more.

While fans have spent countless hours on Bungie’s shooter (with the top player on the site logging 37,213 hours and 31 minutes), Destiny 2's player count debacle continues, dropping to as low as 12,379 players on Steam. Only time will tell whether Bungie can turn things around, or if Destiny 2’s best days are already behind it.
