An Exotic rocket launcher all the way back from season 4, the Two-Tailed Fox has been in dire need of love for a long time. Luckily, thanks to the many reworks Bungie implemented to older Exotic weapons, Two-Tailed Fox has risen as an option in Destiny 2's early Lightfall meta, even if it can't quite contend with some Legendary rocket launchers.

The Two-Tailed Fox comes with a Catalyst, which makes this already unique rocket launcher even more interesting. The weapons basically received a bunch of subclass 3.0 keywords to further enhance its capabilities, and its Catalyst does just that as well. Here's how players can earn the Catalyst in Destiny 2 and what exactly it brings forth.

How To Get The Two-Tailed Fox Rocket Launcher

Destiny 2 Xur On Nessus

As an older Exotic, the Two-Tailed Fox is occasionally sold by Xur when he appears on Fridays every week, and it can also drop randomly as an Exotic engram in the world. This makes it quite difficult to come by naturally. It can't be bought from the Monument to Lost Lights.

The Two-Tailed Fox will shoot two rockets (Twintails perk). Its Void rocket deals suppression to enemies, while the Solar rocket burns targets over time ( Play With Your Prey perk).

How To Get The Two-Tailed Fox Catalyst

Destiny 2 Crucible Playlist

Unfortunately, the Catalyst for Two-Tailed Fox only drops randomly from playlist activities. This includes Crucible matches, Vanguard Strikes of all difficulty levels, and Gambit matches. As such, it's going to take potentially a very long time before players can hope to get their hands on it. Good luck and persistence are key when farming for these types of Catalysts.

Once players earn the Catalyst, it requires 350 kills in order to be upgraded and slotted into the weapon. Considering the fact that the Two-Tailed Fox is a heavy weapon, the best way to farm these kills is to hit the Shuro-Chi checkpoint in Last Wish with a handful of rally banners to replenish heavy ammo in-between rounds. This is by far the best farming method for heavy weapons.

What The Two-Tailed Fox Catalyst Does

Destiny 2 Two-Tailed Fox Third Tail Catalyst Perk
  • Third Tail: Shoot a third rocket of Arc energy in the second shot, which applies jolt on targets. Jolted targets deal Chain Lightning damage to nearby enemies when they take additional damage.

The Third Tail perk is an interesting one, making it somewhat worth it to farm the Two-Tailed Fox catalyst in the first place. Since subclass keywords like jolt, suppress, and scorch/ignition are so powerful as of Lightfall, thanks to their anti-champion and crowd control capabilities, having three subclass effects packed in one heavy is pretty much a dream come true. The only other Exotic that packs more punch with subclass keywords is Conditional Finality from the Root of Nightmares raid.

The ideal use of a fully upgraded Two-Tailed Fox is to have one person in the fireteam running it, similar to a Gjallarhorn user. While it's not as necessary as Gjallarhorn, it can be a nice added debuffing tool against some bosses.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
