Summary

  • The new dungeon, Vesper's Host, introduces new gear, four new Legendary weapons, and Ice Breaker as the Exotic.
  • The Bray Legacy Origin Trait is one of the better ones seen in Destiny 2.
  • Weapons like VS Velocity Baton and VS Chill Inhibitor make the dungeon worth grinding for loot.

Vesper's Host was the first dungeon to be introduced in contest mode and brought back the famous Ice Breaker to Destiny 2 at last as its Exotic drop. On top of the Exotic sniper rifle, players can also get their hands on a brand-new set of armor, and four new Legendary weapons. There are rumblings of the dungeon allowing players to focus one specific weapon per run through a secret chest, which will certainly make farming for these weapons easier.

Destiny 2: How to Get Ice Breaker

Ice Breaker has made a triumphant return to Destiny 2, and here is how you can get your hands on this Exotic sniper rifle.

Overall, Vesper's Host's weapons are all from a great archetype. There are no swords or glaives this time to muddy up the loot pool, but players will need to be selective and discerning with perks, especially for the weapons ranking a little lower on the list. All four of these weapons come with the new Bray Legacy Origin Trait, which is quite powerful, as dealing any damage with these weapons generates a bit of ability energy for the ability that's closest to full charge. Without further ado, here's how the weapons of Vesper's Host rank up in terms of their perk strength and utility in PVE.

4 VS Gravitic Arrest

A Void Fusion Rifle With Some Tough Competition

Destiny 2 VS Gravitic Arrest Fusion Rifle From Vesper's Host
  • God Roll: Repulsor Brace & Withering Gaze

At the bottom of the pack is the Void fusion rifle of the dungeon, VS Gravitic Arrest. There are already a few other fusion rifles that compete with this one, which makes it hard to justify its ranking any higher than this. Null Composure, for one, comes to mind as a great alternative.

But for those who want to collect them all, an interesting roll combination could be Repulsor Brace with Withering Gaze, mainly against tankier enemies like champions and mini-bosses. Withering Gaze has the power to weaken the target after aiming down sights for a bit, and then Repulsor Brace grants a Void Overshield once the weakened target is defeated. There are some other options here as well, such as Under Pressure and Chain Reaction, but for Void lovers, Repulsor Brace remains the best option.

3 VS Pyroelectric Propellant

An Arc Auto Rifle That Comes With A Nice New Arc Perk

Destiny 2 VS Pyroelectric Propellant Auto Rifle From Vesper's Host
  • God Roll: Strategist & Jolting Feedback

Auto rifles are still good in the meta, but not all of them are made equal, and it's hard to top something as incredible as Rufus' Fury from the Root of Nightmares raid—even if these two weapons are not fighting for the same weapon slot. VS Pyroelectric Propellant might still be worth getting due to an interesting Arc perk: Jolting Feedback. This perk gives players access to Jolt while using this weapon even outside of the Arc subclass.

Destiny 2: How To Defeat The Corrupted Puppeteer In Vesper's Host Dungeon

The final encounter of Vesper's Host in Destiny 2 pits players against the Corrupted Puppeteer and its irradiated clones. Here's how to defeat them.

The other viable perk really can only be Strategist, at least for PVE. The overall perk pool for this auto rifle isn't fantastic, but at the same time, it also makes it easy to see which two perks would probably work the best overall for every PVE player out there. Attrition Orbs could be a very niche option in some cases. For now, Strategist wins in its perk column, along with Jolting Feedback.

2 VS Velocity Baton

An Aerial Denial Void Grenade Launcher

Destiny 2 VS Velocity Baton Grenade Launcher From Vesper's Host
  • God Roll: Demolitionist & Bait & Switch

Here's an interesting newcomer to the grenade launcher pool: an aerial denial Void grenade launcher. Similarly to last Episode's Stasis aerial denial launcher, this one also comes with that trademark area-of-effect archetype highly reminiscent of Witherhoard—without the sacrifice of an Exotic slot.

Destiny 2 Revenant Guardians Holding Weapons
Destiny 2: All Revenant Weapons, Ranked

Destiny 2's episode Revenant comes with brand-new weapons available from its new Onslaught activity. Here's which ones to grind for.

Not just that, but its second perk column has Bait & Switch, making it an absolutely fantastic option for damage weapon rotations for this season. Remember, grenade launchers can now weaken enemies thanks to the Concussive Reloader artifact perk. For a quick reload, Demolitionist seems like the easier option here, as every other perk in the first column just seems lukewarm in comparison. Players should definitely consider trying to get this one in their arsenal, as it has the potential to top its main competition, Wilderflight from Spire of the Watcher.

1 VS Chill Inhibitor

Stasis Heavy Grenade Launcher

Destiny 2 VS Chill Inhibitor Grenade Launcher From Vesper's Host
  • God Roll: Envious Arsenal & Bait and Switch/Surrounded

Finally, a dungeon weapon worthy of its salt. VS Chill Inhibitor is showing a lot of promise, but whether or not it can top Bitter/Sweet as the new, strong heavy grenade launcher remains to be seen. Perk pool-wise, there's a lot to love here, with Cascade Point and Envious Arsenal in the same column. In this case, Envious Arsenal is the must-have pick.

In the second column, there are two good options, but one of them is highly situational. Bait and Switch is the safe option for damage rotations, providing a 30% damage increase when players deal damage with all weapons in short succession. However, Surrounded technically provides a higher damage boost at 35%. The catch is that players need to have at least three enemies in close proximity, which won't be the case for all boss encounters in the game.
