Destiny 2: Xur Exotic Armor, Weapon, and Recommendations for January 3

Xur has returned again to Destiny 2, complete with new exotic and legendary gear for players to check out for a limited time. With The Dawning in Destiny 2 having ended earlier this week, players are now in the final week of the downtime between Episode Revenant acts.

Act 3 is rapidly approaching, though unlike previously, Bungie isn't able to give players an early look at what's changing this time around due to the holiday break. However, during the Act 2 livestream, Bungie did tease a few things players can expect, including a new Destiny 2 exotic weapon mission to unlock the slug shotgun known as Slayer's Fang.

Until then though, the weekend merchant Xur is back with a new inventory of gear for Destiny 2 players. Follow this guide for his current weekend location, news on his exotic cipher quest, as well as a review of all the exotic and legendary gear he's brought for the weekend of January 3, 2025.

Where is Xur?

Xur has now taken up permanent residence in the Bazaar area inside The Tower, so there's no more hunting when the weekend comes around.

Since the Bazaar is located between both fast travel points, players can pick either one to load into. Head into the area where Ikora and Hawthorne are and look for the Ramen Shop towards the back wall. While facing the shop, the alley is to the right, where Xur is standing.

Destiny 2 Class Armor and Exotic Cipher

Xur's role continues to offer the usual weekly quests, exotics, and legendary gear. Not only are these quests required to purchase a second fated engram, but they're necessary to acquire legacy exotic gear from the Tower kiosk. Players can earn a new cipher by completing strikes and winning crucible or gambit matches. Gain bonus points for playing with clan mates or finishing more challenging activities.

Xur's Exotic Armor

Crown of Tempests - Warlock helmet

Exotic Perk:

• Conduction Tines - Arc ability or jolt final blows increase the recharge rate of your Arc abilities and extend the duration of Stormtrance.

One of the must-have exotics for Stormtrance users, this exotic also has an extremely high Recovery value this week, making it even more appealing than usual.

Liar's Handshake - Hunter gauntlets

Exotic Perk:

• Cross Counter - Using your Arc melee ability or being hit by a melee attack will allow you to follow up with an extremely powerful melee counterpunch that will heal you.

At one point, this exotic was an arc powerhouse, capable of dishing out immense amounts of damage. While it has since been nerfed, it isn't valued quite as highly as it once was and isn't quite the must-have these days.

Severance Enclosure - Titan chest armor

Exotic Perk:

• Spheromatik Trigger - Powered melee final blows unleash a damaging explosion. Finishers and final blows against more powerful targets increase the radius and damage of the explosion.

Can be fun to mess around with, but this isn't one of the more notable exotic options in the current meta.

Xur Inventory Items

Year 7 in Destiny 2 has upgraded Xur's inventory, adding a true rank progression system, rewards, as well as focusing options. Xur also has more than just weapons and armor as well, including:

• MIDA Multi-Tool Catalyst
• The Xurfboard (Skimmer Board Vehicle)
• Essentialism/Stoicism/Solipsism OR Exotic Cipher

Xur's Exotic Weapons

Year 7's Xur revamp has also added the ability to offer multiple exotic weapons in one visit. Here is what Xur has this weekend:

Hawkmoon - Hand Cannon

• Paracausal Shot - Final blows and precision hits with Hawkmoon grant stacks of Paracausal Charge. The final round in the magazine deals bonus damage based on the number of stacks. Stowing Hawkmoon on the final round removes this bonus.

• Alloy Magazine
• Moving Target
• Polymer Grip

Arbalest - Linear Fusion Rifle

• Compounding Force - Fires slugs that cause massive damage to combatant shields. Strong against Barrier Champions.
• Disruption Break - Breaking an enemy's shield with this weapon makes them more vulnerable to Kinetic damage for a brief period.
• Extended Barrel
• Projection Fuse
• Composite Stock

Hard Light - Auto Rifle

• Volatile Light - Rounds fired from this weapon have reduced damage falloff, overpenetrate targets, and ricochet off hard surfaces. Projectile damage increases after bounce.
• The Fundamentals - Holding reload changes this weapon's damage type, cycling between Solar, Arc, and Void. Grants different stats based on your selected damage type.

• Composite Stock

The Colony - Grenade Launcher

• Insectoid Robot Grenades - This weapon's grenades are insectoid robots that chase targets and explode close to them. Consumes tougher combatants to create additional robots.
• Serve the Colony - Insectoid robot grenades quickly repopulate the magazine from reserves while the Colony is unequipped.

• High-Velocity Rounds
• Composite Stock
