Bungie reveals the roadmap for next year of content coming to Destiny 2, which kicks off on July 15 with the Edge of Fate expansion. The day many fans had been waiting for arrived as the long-teased Edge of Fate expansion was finally revealed in full by Bungie, though the studio also went ahead and confirmed even more upcoming Destiny 2 details.
As expected, Bungie revealed the first gameplay from Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate, revealing the mysterious planetoid known as Kepler, taking players outside the main locations of the Sol system, which has been at the forefront of both games. Players are responding to a call from a mysterious figure directly related to The Nine, as a new mystery unfolds. Bungie has also confirmed that players will be unlocking new destination abilities, while also hunting for new weapons and gear.
Destiny 2's Approach to The Edge of Fate May Be a Double-Edged Sword
The Edge of Fate sets up a bold new saga, but if Destiny 2 withholds too much too soon, it may lose the very players it has long struggled to retain.
However, the Bungie Showcase also went beyond the Edge of Fate, confirming the full roadmap for what the studio is calling the Year of Prophecy. Alongside the Edge of Fate, the Season of Reclaimation begins with a new Rewards Pass, before a new one begins with the Major Update on September 9 called Ash & Iron. The new Destiny 2 release cadence was revealed last year by Bungie, with these major updates serving as a "substantial refresh" for players.
Star Wars Comes to Destiny 2 in 2025
The Year of Prophecy begins on July 15, 2025 🪐 The Edge of Fate expansion // July 15, 2025 🪓 Ash & Iron major update // Sep 9, 2025 ⭐ Renegades expansion // Dec 2, 2025 ⚫ Shadow & Order major update // Mar 3, 2026 — Destiny 2 (@destinythegame.bungie.net) 2025-05-06T16:41:28.689Z
In addition to The Edge of Fate, Bungie went a step further than most players likely thought. The roadmap also confirmed the second Destiny 2 expansion as Renegades during the season, known as Lawless. Scheduled to arrive on December 2, 2025, the expansion appears to be heavily inspired by Star Wars, with a teaser trailer showcasing what appears to be Jabba the Hutt's palace on Tatooine and a Warlock holding some sort of green lightsaber. Fans can also expect a major update in March 2026 known as Shadow & Order, but as expected, details on that are very slim.
However, new content is just the tip of the iceberg players can expect during the Year of Prophecy. In the months leading up to the July 15 launch, Bungie clearly has plenty more to talk about, already teasing major core changes to Destiny 2 such as Armor 3.0 and gear tiering. In fact, Bungie also highlighted one of the new features launching in July as Portal, which also adds a highly requested Solo Ops category to Destiny 2.
