After 10 years, the Destiny franchise will soon receive its first spinoff game in the upcoming Destiny: Rising. Developed by NetEase Games, Rising is currently in its pre-alpha stage of development with early test players able to get a chance to play the game on November 1st later this year. Unlike Destiny 1 or 2, Destiny: Rising is a mobile game intended for IOS and Android platforms, not consoles. While Rising may look similar in appearance and gameplay at first glance, Destiny: Rising will display several new features on top of classics longtime Destiny fans have become accustomed to.

Destiny: Rising's Place on The Timeline Explained

Bungie and NetEase Games recently revealed the spin-off title Destiny: Rising, which is set in a time fans of Destiny have never seen before.

Destiny: Rising’s Classic Features Explained

Despite being a mobile game, Destiny: Rising will still play similarly to both Destiny 1 and 2. All three games are primarily first-person shooters focused on PvE scenarios that can be completed either in co-op or alone. Some returning PvE scenarios include campaign missions, destination free roam exploration, and strike missions. While Destiny: Rising is set in an alternate universe in a time period before the construction of the Tower or the forming of the Vanguard and formal Crucible matches, players will still be able to go head-to-head in PVP matches online. Both PvE and PvP scenarios are expected to be replayable, just as most are in Destiny 2.

In terms of weaponry, players will still be able to find or purchase a variety of primary weapons to use in both PvE and PvP instances. Despite Destiny: Rising being set shortly after The Collapse, when many Exotic weapons were first created, players will still be able to find and choose from countless powerful Exotic weapons to add to their arsenal. Rising players will additionally still be able to customize their own Guardians through the selection of various species, genders, classes, armors, and other cosmetics. Once players create their Guardians, they’ll be set out to still interact with multiple vendors and fight familiar forces of Darkness such as the Fallen and the Vex.

Destiny: Rising’s New Features Explained

Destiny’s core gameplay and aesthetics will return in Destiny: Rising, but there are several new alterations that may give veteran Guardians pause when first playing the upcoming mobile game. For one, while players can still build their own Guardian, named Wolf in this game, they can also play as other legendary Lightbearers such as Ikora Rey, each with their own unique abilities. Combat won’t be restricted to first-person as Rising will offer the option to play in third-person, an option only seen in mainline Destiny games when using vehicles and Relics or performing emotes. Each gamer can further play in their own unique combat style, unrestricted by typical Hunter, Titan, and Warlock class mechanics.

Special and Heavy weapon slots will not return in Destiny: Rising and are instead replaced by a singular Power weapons slot. Primary and Power weapons aren’t the only tools at Guardians' disposal, however, as each Guardian will be equipped with their own unique Relic that can be modified with two Signature abilities and various perks. For example, Wolf can equip Auto Rifles for Primary Weapons and Grenade Launchers for Power Weapons, while Kabr can wield the Thunder Shield for his Relic, similar to the Aegis found in the Vault of Glass. Destiny: Rising will additionally introduce a whole new weapon class beyond Exotics called Mythic, with one Mythic weapon shown to be a type of crossbow.

Destiny: Rising’s New Game Modes

While Destiny: Rising will play similarly to the mainline Destiny game, Rising will introduce several new game modes for players to try out. Instead of ordinary Strike missions, Rising will feature Haven Ops Strikes which are expected to be completed within a few minutes and are presumably named after Rising’s main hub area, Haven. For a greater challenge, players can try out the raid-like Gauntlet Ops. On top of Haven Ops Strikes and Gauntlet Ops, players can combat the forces of Darkness and Guardians in several other, currently undisclosed modes, such as Morgran's Prey, Legacy, Realms of the IX, and Shifting Gates. Players who sign up for Destiny: Rising’s upcoming Closed Alpha will be able to try out some of these new modes for the first time.

United States and Canadian players can pre-register for a chance to play Destiny: Rising’s Closed Alpha Test which starts on Friday, November 1st at www.playdestinyrising.com.
