Detroit: Become Human, the adventure game from Quantic Dream where player choices shape the story, recently crossed 10 million units sold. First launched in 2018 as a PS4 exclusive title, Detroit: Become Human made its way onto PC in 2019.
Being Quantic Dream's fifth game, Detroit: Become Human takes the formula used in the French studio's other choice-based games, such as Beyond: Two Souls and Heavy Rain, and further improves upon it. At the time of its launch, the game received overall positive reviews, eventually reaching an average critic rating of 79 on OpenCritic. On the sales front, Detroit: Become Human topped the charts in the UK before cruising to over two million copies sold by the end of its release year.
As per Quantic Dream CEO Guillaume de Fondaumiere on Twitter, Detroit: Become Human has now sailed past the 10 million mark in units sold across PlayStation and PC. The achievement exclusively takes into account the paid units of the game, leaving out the story-driven title's PS Plus downloads, as highlighted by de Fondaumiere. He wrote that the entire team is "extremely grateful" to all the players. He continued, "You mean the world to us and [sic] we couldn't have achieved this incredible milestone without every single one of you!"
Detroit: Become Human Hits Major Sales High Years After Launch
Detroit: Become Human reached the 10 million sales mark a little over six years after its 2018 launch. Previously, the Quantic Dream title had taken over two years to reach the five million mark in 2020. Drawing comparisons, it took the game about twice as long to sell another five million copies and reach its latest landmark achievement. In the comments of de Fondaumiere's tweet, several fans celebrated the big occasion. A fan chipped in with a brief statement, "One of the best games ever made." Another player praised the developer's work that went into the game, writing "You deserve it. Excellent game with a great cast." Other comments asked Quantic Dream for certain improvements to the game's existing version, with some of them asking for a PS5 update and others encouraging the studio to make a Detroit: Become Human sequel.
After announcing its plans to go multiplatform with NetEase's help in 2019, Quantic Dream went a step further to become fully-owned by the Chinese tech giant in 2022. It has since operated as NetEase's first Europe-based game studio and is currently working on building Star Wars Eclipse, another narrative-driven game, in partnership with Lucasfilm Games. As fans wait for the French developer's next game, now is a great chance to get their hands on Detroit: Become Human on PC as it is 70% off on Steam until October 14.
