Capcom has announced that a massive milestone has been achieved for Devil May Cry 5, and the company has attributed Netflix in part for its success. Devil May Cry 5 was first released in 2019 and sees returning protagonists, Nero and Dante, hire the stranger, V, to help thwart the Demon King Urizen. The game’s Special Edition was later released in 2020, which added Vergil as a playable character.

DMC 5 is the sixth game in the series, following 2013’s DmC: Devil May Cry reboot and 2018’s Devil May Cry HD Collection. Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition is considered one of the best Xbox launch titles, sharing acclaim with Gears 5, Killer Instinct, and Kameo: Elements of Power, and the fifth mainline installment has now achieved another wave of success thanks to a separate franchise project.

Announced in a press release, Capcom confirmed Devil May Cry 5's sales had surpassed 10 million units, and the celebrations arrive on the heels of Devil May Cry 5’s April 2025 massive player count spike on Steam. The publisher noted that the title’s “exceptional gameplay experience, advanced story, action elements," and the addition of Vergil as a new playable character have helped boost sales. Capcom also attributed Netflix to the recent sales surge, noting the critically acclaimed release of the Devil May Cry animated series pulled in 5.3 million views and ranked in the streamer’s top 10 charts.

Devil May Cry first premiered on Netflix back in April, created by Castlevania's Adi Shankar and animated by the team from South Korea’s Studio Mir. The series sees Dante face a demonic invasion led by the White Rabbit, while also butting heads with soldier Mary. The Best War Games’s review of Devil May Cry season 1 praised its high-octane action, Dante’s portrayal alongside intriguing backstories, and a particularly emotional sixth episode, and fans will have to wait and see if Netflix green-lights a second season.

While fans wait for a potential addition to the DMC series from Capcom or the anime’s continuation, gamers can tap into Lost Soul Aside’s Devil May Cry vibes. The upcoming action-adventure RPG from Ultizero Games and Sony is part of the publisher’s China Hero Project and follows Kaser’s journey to save his sister and the rest of humanity from invaders. Comparisons to DMC come from Kaser's slashing attacks that resemble Vergil's Judgement Cut, and the protagonists' effortless flair in combat.
