Today is the end of an era for Dexter, as the popular series is no longer available on Netflix. Dexter has had an on- and off-again relationship with the streaming giant. Dexter was readily available on Netflix in the early 2010s, was later removed, and then came back in June 2024. For the past year, Dexter fans have been able to enjoy all eight seasons of the original series through their Netflix subscription.

Dexter, for the uninitiated, is a Showtime original series based on the books by Jeff Lindsay. It follows the story of the titular Dexter Morgan, a serial killer with a code of honor that ensures he only kills other killers. When he's not stalking his victims, Dexter tries to live an otherwise "normal" life by spending time with his sister Debra, working as a blood spatter analyst for Miami Metro, and dating his girlfriend Rita. Dexter trying to balance his personal life with his violent extracurricular activities leads to many tense moments in the show, and while many feel Dexter fizzles out by the end of Season 8, some of the early seasons are some of the best in television history.

While it has its low points, Dexter is largely a nonstop thrill ride from start to finish, filled with shocking plot twists and iconic villains. Unfortunately, Netflix subscribers can no longer watch Dexter on their streaming platform of choice, marking the end of an era for the show. But while it's the end of an era for Dexter on Netflix, the show is still readily available to stream elsewhere.

Where Can I Stream Dexter? (2025)

Dexter's been kicked off Netflix, but the show is readily available on Paramount+ in its entirety. And in fact, fans of Dexter will actually want to sign up for Paramount+ for reasons beyond watching the original series. Some Dexter fans who discovered the show on Netflix may not even realize this, but the story continues in two sequel series and one prequel series, all of which are exclusive to Paramount+.

Dexter: New Blood is the direct sequel to the original series, while Dexter: Original Sin is both prequel and sequel, depicting events post-New Blood as well as Dexter's early days as a serial killer. Finally, Dexter: Resurrection is premiering on Paramount+ on July 11 and will be a sequel to New Blood and Original Sin. On top of all that, Original Sin has been renewed for a second season, so even though it's a bummer that the show is no longer on Netflix, at least Dexter fans have plenty to watch on Paramount+.
