Dexter Morgan loved killing people much more than he loved long-term relationships in the original Dexter series, but it has been revealed that Original Sin will explore his romantic urges in addition to his killer ones. Up-and-coming actress, Raquel Justice made a recent appearance on the Horror Fuel YouTube channel to talk about her role in Original Sin, and how it connects to Dexter. She was asked if her character Sofia would be Dexter's first love, and she revealed that she was and teased the dynamics of the relationship:
It was really funny actually, just because with Sofia, she has so much energy to her and so much life to her, and with Dexter, he's just the opposite. He doesn't do that.
Sounds a lot like the Dexter fans knew and loved from the original series, and to have a lively romantic interest like Sofia being the polar opposite to him is an exciting prospect. Justice also revealed that her character is best friends with Debra Morgan, and the prequel will explore their high school years. She also pointed towards the show aiming towards a younger audience, which makes sense as so many Gen Z fans experienced the original Dexter series for the first time on Netflix in recent years, which led to the renewed interest in the Dexter-verse.

However, it was clear Dexter was very much a lone wolf who didn't set out to explore romantic relationships, but it was a key part of the facade he'd hide behind to cover up for who he really was. As the series progressed, Dexter became more human, and embraced his love for Rita, before her untimely death at the hands of the Trinity Killer. But the question remains to be answered about Dexter's early love life and how it shaped those future relationships. Knowing this will be likely be answered in Original Sin will make a rewatch of the original series way more interesting.
Dexter's relationship with Hannah McKay will also come into focus once again, with key backstory in Original Sin potentially showing why this future relationship came to be so important and unique to him. Dexter was never able to fully be himself in a relationship until Hannah burst onto the scene, and convinced Dexter to break Harry's code to spare her life.
