Over 77,000 people have signed a petition trying to convince Showtime and Paramount to reverse course and bring Dexter: Original Sin back from cancellation. The Dexter franchise has proven to be one of the most popular on Showtime and the Paramount+ streaming service, with the original show a television classic and the revivals doing big numbers.
After Dexter went off the air in 2013, the show was revived in 2021 as Dexter: New Blood, a sequel series that picked things up about a decade later. Dexter: New Blood was seen as a way to right the wrongs of the original series' highly controversial finale, but it left many fans wanting more. The call for more Dexter content was answered with the prequel series Dexter: Original Sin and the sequel series Dexter: Resurrection. Both new Dexter shows premiered in 2025 and were successful, with Original Sin renewed for a second season and work already being done on a second season of Resurrection as well.

Even though over 77,000 people have already signed the petition to save Dexter: Original Sin from cancellation, it's unlikely that it will do anything. People make petitions urging entertainment companies to do things all the time, and they're almost always ignored. While there's always a chance that plans could change yet again when it comes to Dexter: Original Sin, fans of the Dexter franchise shouldn't hold their breath.
Initially, fan reaction to Dexter: Original Sin was mixed. Dexter is one of the most iconic characters in television history, and so many were unconvinced that anyone could possibly replace Michael C. Hall as the title character. However, Patrick Gibson won many over with his performance as a young Dexter, and the rest of the cast earned a great deal of acclaim as well, especially Molly Brown as Dexter's sister Debra Morgan.
While it's disappointing that Dexter: Original Sin isn't coming back for a second season, the good news is that there is plenty of information in the original series for fans to fill in the blanks. The Dexter: Original Sin Season 1 finale didn't really leave any major lingering issues that can't be resolved with simple head-canon, though one has to wonder what the second season would have brought to the table.
