Summary

  • Dexter: Resurrection will start filming in January 2025 and air next summer on Paramount+ and Showtime.
  • Lumen holds the key to Dexter's dark past and could return in Dexter: Resurrection to offer insight.
  • If Lumen returns, she might be the only one to view Dexter sympathetically due to past connections.

Dexter: Resurrection will begin filming in January 2025, and it'll debut on Paramount + with Showtime next summer. Michael C. Hall will be back as Dexter Morgan, and the sequel series will pick up directly after the end of Dexter: New Blood, with the titular serial killer fighting for his life after his son, Harrison, shot him in the chest. There haven't been any other casting announcements for Dexter: Resurrection, but it is highly likely Julia Jones will be back as Dexter's ex-girlfriend, Chief Angela Bishop, but she might not be the only former love interest of the serial killer to appear. The Season 5 character , Lumen Pierce, is very much alive in the Dexter universe and many plot points involving her character were left unresolved, and she should return in Dexter: Resurrection.

Julia Stiles played Lumen in 10 episodes of the original Dexter series, but after she left in season 5, she was never seen again. She is only one of two Dexter love interests to still be alive, so it would be interesting to bring her back, as she knew about his dark passenger long before it was common knowledge. There's a chance Lumen might be the only character who views Dexter in a sympathetic way if she appears in Dexter: Resurrection, after he helped her get revenge on the men who brutally raped and tortured her in the original location of Miami.

Who Should Be Dexter's Ghost In Dexter: Resurrection?

Dexter has always had a ghost companion, with his father, Harry in Dexter and Debra in New Blood, but who could take on the role in Resurrection?

What happened to Lumen in Dexter season 5?

lumen pierce

Lumen was the unfortunate victim of a series of brutal rapes by the Barrel Girl Gang in Dexter season 5. Dexter rescued her from captivity and the pair went on a revenge laden mission to kill every member of the gang led by motivational speaker, Jordan Chase (Jonny Lee Miller). After Dexter and Lumen capture and kill Jordan Chase, they are tracked down by Debra Morgan, while clearing up their kill room.

Debra points a gun at them with Dexter and Lumen's true identities hidden by a plastic sheet used for the kill room. However, she decides to let them go as she feels sympathy for the abuse suffered by the barrel girls. After Jordan's death, Lumen realizes that her darkness has dissipated, and she can't stay with Dexter, as his dark side still exists very much. Dexter is devastated by her decision, but he understands, and they end their relationship on good terms, but Lumen was written out after season 5.

Dexter Morgan's secret will finally be known to the whole world when Dexter: Resurrection resumes his story in the summer of 2025. Key character, Angel Batista was on his way to Iron Lake to confront his former friend at the end of Dexter: New Blood, after discovering he was the Bay Harbor Butcher who stalked Miami all those years ago. Dexter will likely be viewed as a monster in the eyes of Miami Metro Homicide, where he fooled everyone while working there as a forensics expert. But Lumen is one character who never viewed him in such a way, and it would be intriguing to see her return in the sequel series to offer her own insight on Dexter's dark passenger.

Dexter's love life has been complicated over the years, with not many of his love interests living to tell the tale. Lila Tournay was killed by Dexter after she was responsible for James Doakes' death in season 2. This was followed by his wife, Rita Bennett, being murdered by one of the best villains in the Dexter series, The Trinity Killer, in season 4. This didn't put Dexter off looking for love, and he finally thought he'd found his soulmate in Lumen in season 5, who appeared to be just as damaged as he was. Lumen did the smart thing and got out of Dexter's life, otherwise she could've ended up like Lila or Rita. Hannah McKay was Dexter's next chance at love, and she died of cancer after bringing up Dexter's son, Harrison.

If Lumen did return in Dexter: Resurrection, she might face a similar fate, as everyone who Dexter gets close to ends up dead. If Dexter was to go on the run after recovering from his injuries, he could turn to Lumen for solace after everyone else has turned their backs on him. She may reluctantly agree to help Dexter as she still owes him for helping her kill the men who abused her. The pair had a deep connection, and there was so much more that could be explored if she was to make a comeback.

Lumen may also be tracked down by law enforcement to face serious questions about her involvement in the Barrel Girl Gang's murders, if the police link it to Dexter and re-investigate it, alongside many other cold case murders. Up until the revelations about Dexter in Dexter: New Blood, Lumen was the only living character to know his dark secret, and there is a lot of potential drama that could be explored with that in Dexter: Resurrection.

Dexter: Resurrection Needs To Return To This Iconic Location

Dexter: New Blood was set in the icy wilderness of Upstate New York, so Dexter: Resurrection should return to Miami, where the first series was set.
