Dexter: Resurrection will see Dexter survive after being shot in the chest by his teenage son, Harrison. Despite this being a retcon of the finale of Dexter: New Blood, it has given the writers the chance to explore Dexter and Harrison's relationship in more depth moving forward. Dexter noticed signs of Harrison's own dark passenger, and chose to share the details of Harry's code with him in order to channel his urges. It looked like father and son might kill together, but this idea was brought to an abrupt end with Dexter in bad shape at the end of Dexter: New Blood.

Dexter: Resurrection could see Dexter track Harrison down, and the pair could go on the run together and potentially mend their relationship by bonding over killing criminals who deserve it. Before the sequel series was announced at San Diego Comic Con 2024, the initial plan was for a Harrison spin-off series, but that was scrapped before it entered the production stages. If it had gone ahead, it would've probably explored Harrison's killer urges, meaning this storyline could still be used in Dexter: Resurrection, albeit with Dexter's assistance.

Dexter And Harrison Were On The Brink Of Killing Together in Dexter: New Blood

Dexter (Michael C. Hall) and Harrison (Jack Alcott) had a relationship that seemed to be going in a positive direction towards the end of Dexter: New Blood, when they bonded over their joint dark passengers. After Dexter rescues Harrison from serial killer, Kurt Caldwell, he tells him everything about the past:

You never have to feel alone with your dark thoughts again. I was born in blood just like you. I had the same violent urges when I was your age. Like you, I didn't know how to deal with them. But my dad taught me a code. A way to channel those urges.

If Dexter hadn't been caught and subsequently killed Coach Logan during his escape, his relationship with Harrison could've progressed to killing bad people together, with Dexter passing down the code Harry taught him all those years ago. Dexter took Harrison along with him on his search for Kurt Caldwell, and when they caught up with him, Dexter trained Harrison on his serial killing routine, hoping to pass down some tips to his apprentice. However, Harrison was a bit squeamish at the sight of blood, meaning there might be a bit more training needed from his father in Dexter: Resurrection for Harrison to become a competent killer.

It's unclear what direction Dexter: Resurrection will take Dexter's story in, and it hasn't even been confirmed if Jack Alcott will return to play Harrison Morgan. But if the character does come back, he'll have a lot of issues to sort out with his father after trying to kill him. Harrison probably won't end up on Dexter's kill table, as he doesn't fit Harry's code. The most likely scenario could see Dexter and Harrison killing together, as they both try to keep their dark urges under control by not killing good people.

Harrison probably wasn't popular enough to have his own series, which would've seen him deal with his dark urges on his own. However, Dexter can now help Harrison channel his anger in the direction of bad people in Dexter: Resurrection, using the skills his own father taught him. The difference is, Harry Morgan wasn't a killer, so he didn't understand his son's urges. Dexter does understand Harrison's dark passenger because he has one too, and this could make for a formidable killing partnership in Dexter: Resurrection.

Dexter: Resurrection' s key dynamic could change, so it features Dexter carrying out his kills with another person on a permanent basis. Dexter toyed with the idea of having a partner in crime in the original Dexter series, as he carried out murders alongside Miguel Prado in season 3 and Lumen Pierce in season 5. However, the partnerships never worked out for different reasons. If Dexter was to carry out kills with Harrison in Dexter: Resurrection, it would feel right as both of them share the same DNA and urge to commit murder after experiencing similar childhood trauma.

Harrison clearly has it in him to kill, as he shot Dexter in the chest in the finale of Dexter: New Blood. The troubled teenager fled the sleepy town of Iron Lake, firmly believing he had killed his father, and this would've been the completion of a key aspect in Harry's code: only kill bad people. Dexter couldn't justify the killing of Coach Logan, as he was an innocent man, so Harrison was technically right to try and kill his father. If they can sort out their differences in Dexter: Resurrection, they could join forces and target the villains in the Dexter series who deserve it.
