Summary

  • Dexter: Resurrection will explore the aftermath of Harrison shooting Dexter and their complicated relationship.
  • The potential revival of a father/son killing spree between Dexter and Harrison may be explored, with Harrison not likely to end up on his father's kill table.
  • Dexter must seek forgiveness for Coach Logan's murder to regain audience sympathy in Dexter: Resurrection.

Plot details remain under wraps for Michael C. Hall's return as the serial killer with a code in Dexter: Resurrection, but the sequel series does look set to pick up soon after the events of Dexter: New Blood, with Dexter set to survive after being shot in the chest by his teenage son, Harrison. Fans are questioning what could happen next with the relationship between Dexter and Harrison Morgan.

If it was anyone else who tried to kill Dexter, they would definitely end up wrapped in plastic on his kill table, but it becomes more complicated as Harrison is not only his son, but he was justified in taking Dexter down because of Logan's killing. Dexter broke the code to kill Harrison's innocent wrestling coach in order to escape jail. It goes against everything Harry Morgan stood for, and if Dexter was to teach Harrison his late grandfather's rules, Dexter would qualify for the legendary kill table.

Dexter: Original Sin Should Explore Dexter's Urge To Kill Good People

Dexter: Original Sin will explore a young Dexter, as he tries to follow the code, but it could focus on the serial killer's urge to ignore the code.

Dexter Encouraged Harrison To Kill Him, But He May Feel Differently When He Wakes Up

Dexter and harrison after the shooting

After shooting his serial killer father in the chest, Harrison Morgan left the sleepy town of Iron Lake in search of a new start. Chief Angela Bishop arrived on the scene to deal with the aftermath, with Dexter seemingly dead. However, Michael C. Hall teased in an interview with Variety that the cold temperatures most probably slowed down the blood loss, and Dexter is actually alive in Dexter: Resurrection.

Despite encouraging Harrison to shoot him, Dexter might feel very differently when he wakes up in hospital, having to face up to his crimes. Many fans believe Dexter's request that Harrison kill him was purely selfish, and not some attempt at freeing his son from the burden of the sins of the father. In fact, if Harrison had killed Dexter, he would have to live with that for the rest of his life, which Dexter had no self awareness about.

The original plan after Dexter: New Blood' s ending two years ago, was to develop a Harrison spin-off series, but that idea was scrapped in favor of Michael C. Hall's return in Dexter: Resurrection. There hasn't been any confirmation on whether Jack Alcott will reprise the role of Harrison in Dexter: Resurrection, but despite the mixed fan reaction to his character, it is highly likely he will be back, with the relationship between Dexter and Harrison central to the Dexter universe.

There is so much more to explore with Harrison, so some of the scrapped ideas for New Blood season 2, as it was once known, could be resurrected in the Dexter sequel series. Dexter: New Blood was one of Showtime's biggest ever hits, so it was inevitable it had to carry on in some form. However, Harrison's story probably wasn't strong enough on its own to carry a show, but the further exploration of Dexter and Harrison's twisted bond could work very well.

Harrison Would Only End Up On Dexter's Kill Table If He Started Killing Innocent People

Despite all his darkness, Dexter loves his son, Harrison, and he would do anything to protect him, despite taking a bullet in the chest from the teenager in the finale of Dexter: New Blood. The relationship is complicated, but Dexter probably won't seek revenge on Harrison for trying to kill him in Dexter: Resurrection.

Chief Angela Bishop and Dexter are the only people who know what Harrison did, but despite their differences, they are likely to agree to cover for him and allow him to live the rest of his life in peace. However, if Dexter finds out Harrison isn't following Harry's code and targeting innocent people, he could end up on his kill table.

Harrison displayed signs of possessing his father's dark passenger in Dexter: New Blood, with Dexter keen to harness Harrison's urges in the same way his adoptive father did with him, and this could be a potential plot point to explore in Dexter: Resurrection. If Dexter manages to escape the authorities in the sequel series, it is likely he will track Harrison down, and seek to rebuild the relationship, and keep his son on his twisted version of the straight and narrow.

Audiences will struggle to root for Dexter in Dexter: Resurrection unless he shows some remorse for killing Coach Logan, and this could be explored further through Dexter's interactions with Harrison. If Dexter followed up Coach Logan's death by killing Harrison, it would end all sympathy the fans have for him. Dexter: Resurrection must show Dexter seeking Harrison's forgiveness for Logan's murder, and embarking on a father/son killing spree that focuses on the criminals in society who deserve it.

Both Dexter finales have been negatively received by fans, so the pressure is on for Dexter: Resurrection to finally stick the landing, and Dexter and Harrison's relationship is the key to achieving that.

Dexter: Original Sin Doesn't Have To Include This Character (But It Would Be Great If It Did)

Nobody has been cast to play a younger version of one particularly popular character in Dexter: Original Sin.
