Summary

  • Krysten Ritter plays Lady Vengeance in Dexter: Resurrection, hinting at a potential spin-off for new characters.
  • Ritter's character could be a one-season villain in the series, leading to a standalone show.
  • Possibility of Uma Thurman, Neil Patrick Harris, and David Dastmalchian getting spin-offs as well.

Dexter: Resurrection will launch on Paramount + with Showtime on July 11, 2025, with Michael C. Hall returning as America's favorite serial killer, Dexter Morgan. The 10-episode spin-off series will also star David Zayas, Jack Alcott, Uma Thurman, Peter Dinklage and Krysten Ritter, who will play a mysterious new character known as Lady Vengeance.

Krysten Ritter will only have a recurring role in Dexter: Resurrection, but a Hollywood insider has claimed that new characters from the series might also feature in upcoming spin-offs. The Dexter-verse is already expanding with a second season of the prequel series, Original Sin, as well as a Trinity Killer spin-off, and it looks like Ritter's new character might be one of the new characters set for a solo outing.

Michael C. Hall's performance in Six Feet Under stands the test of time and it's arguably a better show than Dexter.

After Dexter faked his own death in the iconic location of Miami in the original season finale back in 2013, it looked like the serial killer with a code had killed his final victim. However, fans were not satisfied with the ending, and the limited series, Dexter: New Blood, was launched in 2021, with Dexter's original showrunner, Clyde Phillips, determined to finally give Dexter a proper ending. Dexter's son, Harrison, shot and supposedly killed his father, but fans were also not happy with this divisive ending, and the series became Showtime's biggest ever hit, so when the Paramount merger was completed, the aim was to build the Dexter-verse, with the prequel, Original Sin, a sequel, Resurrection and a spin-off serial based on John Lithgow's iconic villain, The Trinity Killer.

It has now emerged that Dexter: Resurrection could lead to more spin-offs, but this time it would be focused on brand-new characters. Marvel star Krysten Ritter will play the mysterious new character, Mia Lapierre (a.k.a. Lady Vengeance) in Dexter: Resurrection, and according to Hollywood insider Daniel Richtman, she could be one of the new characters getting their own story fleshed out: Richtman told his Patreon followers that Paramount intends to expand the Dexter universe in a similar way to Yellowstone, with spin-offs focused on characters who haven't even appeared yet, and Ritter's Lady Vengeance fits into that category.

Krysten Ritter Could End Up Being A One-Season Villain In Dexter: Resurrection And Future Spin-Offs Might Focus On Other New Characters

Krysten Ritter is a big star, but her role in Dexter: Resurrection won't be a series regular and this could mean one of two things: she'll end up on Dexter's kill table, or it's an elaborate set-up for her character to be spun off into her own show. Deadline broke the news of her casting in Dexter: Resurrection back in February 2025, and her character description stated she was 'a renowned sommelier who may be hiding a serial killer secret.' If she was hiding a murderous intent, she would be exactly the kind of character who could feature in her own spin-off show in the Dexter-verse. Not to mention, Ritter is very much leading star quality, after her iconic turn in Jessica Jones. However, Ritter is an actress in high demand, so it's unclear if she'll want to be tied down to a leading role in another television drama that could run for multiple seasons.

Popular 'How I Met Your Mother' Star Joins Cast Of 'Dexter: Resurrection'

If Lady Vengeance doesn't get her own show there are several other options on the table for potential spin-off series featuring new characters. Uma Thurman was given second billing in Dexter: Resurrection's debut season to the surprise of many fans, but this could end up being a springboard for her own solo show. Before Daniel Richtman broke the news about the plans for the sprawling Dexter universe, he leaked information about Thurman's casting, so it's possible he might have also been given the heads-up about plans for a spin-off. Neil Patrick Harris and David Dastmalchian will also make guest appearances in Dexter: Resurrection, so their characters could potentially be candidates for their own spin-off series. The original plan was to proceed with a Harrison Morgan spin-off, set in the aftermath of New Blood's ending, but the character wasn't well-received, and it was considered a safer bet to bring MIchael C. Hall's titular serial killer back to life in Dexter: Resurrection. This could mean any future spin-offs with brand-new characters in Resurrection will have to wait for feedback from the audience before getting the go ahead.
