Dexter: Resurrection Needs To Bring Back This One Franchise Tradition

Dexter: Resurrection looks like it'll bring back key elements that made the original series so iconic, and there's one tradition that must return.

Dexter Resurrection's Debut Season Episode Titles Have Been Released

The last time audiences saw Dexter Morgan, he was fighting for his life in hospital in the opening sequence of the prequel series, Original Sin, before Michael C. Hall's voiceover kicked in to narrate America's favorite serial killer's origin story as his life flashed before his eyes. The success of Showtime's limited series Dexter: New Blood, Michael C. Hall's desire to return to the Dexter-verse and the merger with Paramount made the new spin-off series, Resurrection, inevitable. With just over a month to go until the premiere, Dexter: Resurrection's debut season's 10 episodes now all have official titles:

Dexter: Resurrection Episode Titles

101 - A Beating Heart…

102 - Camera Shy

103 - Backseat Driver

104 - Call Me Red

105 - Murder Horny

106 - Cats and Mouse

107 - Course Correction

108 - The Kill Room Where It Happens

109 - Touched by an Ángel

110 - And Justice For All…

The first episode of Dexter: Resurrection, 'A Beating Heart', is likely a reference to Dexter actually being alive, after seemingly succumbing to a gunshot wound to the chest inflicted by his teenage son, Harrison, in the finale of New Blood. The second episode, 'Camera Shy', is an intriguing one, in light of Dexter: Resurrection's New York setting, with the serial killer with a code possibly on the run from authorities after recovering from his injuries, and possibly needing to avoid the glare of the many CCTV cameras in one of the busiest cities in the world. Dexter: Resurrection's penultimate episode, 'Touched By An Angel', feels like an obvious reference to fan favorite, Angel Batista, who could be set for a stand-off with Dexter, after discovering the truth about the Bay Harbor Butcher murders. As for the finale 'And Justice For All', this is not likely to feature Dexter's capture, as showrunner, Clyde Phillips, has stated the intention for Resurrection to run for multiple seasons.

The official synopsis for Dexter: Resurrection reads:

Dexter: Resurrection takes place weeks after Dexter Morgan takes a bullet to the chest from his own son, as he awakens from a coma to find Harrison (Jack Alcott) gone without a trace. Realizing the weight of what he put his son through, Dexter sets out for New York City, determined to find him and make things right. But closure won’t come easy. When Miami Metro’s Angel Batista (David Zayas) arrives with questions, Dexter realizes his past is catching up to him fast. As father and son navigate their own darkness in the city that never sleeps, they soon find themselves deeper than they ever imagined, and that the only way out is together.

It has also been confirmed that Kristen Ritter, Eric Stonestreet, David Dastmalcian and Neil Patrick Harris will all play killers in Dexter: Resurrection. In an interview with USA Today, Clyde Phillips teased how they will all cross paths:

They don't all live in New York City, but let's say they've been invited there; it's a gathering. This season is a unique launching pad for however many years this series will be going.

Dexter: Resurrection might lead to spin-offs featuring these new characters, with Hollywood insider, Daniel Richtman revealing that Paramount wants to expand the Dexter-verse exponentially. Marvel favorite, Kristen Ritter will play 'Mia' whose alter ego is Lady Vengeance, while Eric Stonestreet will portray a Midwestern father of two whose dark passenger sees him strangling women with ponytails, and goes by the moniker Rapunzel. Neil Patrick Harris is 'The Tattoo Collector', a successful anesthesiologist with a fascination for body art, and David Dastmalcian is 'The Gemini Killer' who has evaded the FBI's attempts to capture him for years.
