Summary

  • Dexter: Resurrection may revisit the original title sequence with a new twist, similar to Dexter: Original Sin.
  • Alternatively, the sequel series might opt for a brand new title sequence, like Dexter: New Blood did, to establish its own identity.
  • Replicating the original title sequence in Dexter: Resurrection might be challenging, and the series could benefit from a unique approach.

Dexter: Resurrection will pick up immediately after the events of Dexter: New Blood, with Michael C. Hall returning to play Dexter Morgan, as he fights for his life after being shot in the chest by his teenage son, Harrison. The limited series had a very different vibe to the original series, with a brand new title sequence among other things. The prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin, will return to the iconic original title sequence, with a slight twist, as it now features Harry and Debra Morgan. Fans are speculating what the title sequence will be for the upcoming sequel series.

Dexter's morning routine in the original Dexter title sequence became a memorable part of the show, and it was hugely missed in Dexter: New Blood, and there is a possibility it might return in Dexter: Resurrection. However, even if it doesn't return, fans will be appeased by Dexter: Original Sin' s decision to bring it back, albeit with a slightly different version of the music and a brand new morning routine. The title sequence of the prequel series was revealed to the audience at San Diego Comic Con 2024, and it was met with huge applause, especially as it revealed the return of Michael C. Hall as the narrator of 'the inner voice of Dexter'.

Dexter: Resurrection Could Follow The Prequel Series And Bring Back The Original Title Sequence With A Twist

Fans are set to see the return of the famous title sequence in Dexter: Original Sin, so there's a very good chance the Dexter prequel could link up with the sequel series, with the new adventures of Dexter also featuring a version of the original title sequence. A return to this title sequence would be popular with many fans, who became accustomed to this introduction in all 96 episodes of the original Dexter series, which ran between 2006-2013.

The creative team could bring the title sequence back in its original form, with no changes at all to the music and the morning routine that Dexter experienced. However, this would be a bit strange as it shows Dexter in his old life in the iconic location of Miami, which will not be the case when Dexter: Resurrection debuts on Paramount + with Showtime in the summer of 2025.

Alternatively, the music could remain exactly the same, but the morning routine could be totally different to feature Dexter's current circumstances. This option would make more sense, as it would keep certain aspects of what fans loved from the original title sequence, while introducing a new normal for Dexter's routine in Dexter: Resurrection.

The New Sequel Series Might Opt To Establish Itself As Its Own Thing And Feature A Brand New Title Sequence Like Dexter: New Blood Did

Dexter: New Blood launched on Showtime in the fall of 2021, and it very much established itself as a sequel spin-off series, rather than Dexter season 9. The sunny backdrop of Miami, Florida was replaced by the cold snap of Iron Lake in upstate New York, and significantly, the quirky title sequence from the original Dexter series was replaced by a brand new slick introduction in Dexter: New Blood, that showed fast-forward teasing shots of the key events of each episode. Also, the title of each episode would appear on-screen in vastly different creative ways. It was a clever way to establish Dexter in a very different world to the one he inhabited throughout the original series.

Dexter: Resurrection could choose to continue with this particular style of title sequence, or it could opt for something totally different. The sequel series will likely be a completely different show to the original Dexter series and New Blood, so it might make sense to move forward in a new direction. Dexter: Original Sin will cater to legacy fans, with the reworking of the original title sequence, so this provides Dexter: Resurrection with the opportunity to forge its own identity. If Dexter does escape after recovering from his injuries in Dexter's upcoming sequel, it would be great to see a title sequence that showed Dexter running from the authorities, with his morning routine completely disrupted.

In a discussion on Reddit about the Dexter title sequences, Redditor, mr_ryno27 made a very good point about why Dexter: New Blood probably opted for something different.

I honestly think the reason they didn't make a new one for New Blood is because they knew they couldn't make one better than the original.

It would be very difficult to replicate the original title sequence, so Dexter: Resurrection would probably be wise to do something different like New Blood did. If there was a new sequence featuring a brand-new piece of music, it would always be compared to the original and that could affect the prospects of Dexter: Resurrection. Alternatively, the title sequence could be scrapped altogether in the sequel series in favor of a quick flash across the screen of the title card, and then straight into the action.
