Summary

  • Diablo 4 collabs with Berserk for new content, offering themed cosmetics till June 3.
  • Berserk fits Diablo 4's dark themes well, paving the way for potential anime crossovers.
  • Claymore, Demon Slayer, and Jujutsu Kaisen are suggested anime IPs that could also collaborate with Diablo 4.

In April, Blizzard announced a collaboration between Diablo 4, Diablo Immortal, and Berserk. With the launch of Season 8, Belial’s Return sees the arrival of the first of several IP collabs Blizzard promised for 2025 when Diablo 4's content roadmap went live. This Diablo x Berserk event is the first collaboration to feature an IP outside Blizzard franchises, and Kentaro Miura’s masterpiece could serve as a blueprint for future versions to follow. Players can earn Berserk-themed cosmetics inspired by iconic characters like Guts, the Skull Knight, and Griffith.

The shop will also allow players to acquire a host of related transmog sets for a limited period, in combination with the Twitch Support a Streamer Campaign, rewarding those who purchase or gift a Twitch subscription to a set of Diablo 4 channels with the Skull Behelit Mount Trophy. The crossover will last till June 3, and the Berserk sets will only be available for a few more days after the IPs part ways. As Diablo 4 continues to provide new content and IP collabs for its fanbase, its recent partnership with Berserk could kickstart an era of anime crossovers. Berserk's dark themes and story fit seamlessly into Diablo 4’s grim world, and some other candidates for anime IP collabs can offer a similar experience.

A Host Of Anime Can Offer Similar Content And Synergy to Berserk

The decision to choose Berserk for the IP collab makes sense on a fundamental level since it is a natural fit with Diablo -- it is also a dark fantasy filled with bloodshed, demons, monsters, war, and even more R-rated forms of violence. Regarding visual designs, Berserk has been a major influence for many dark fantasy artists over the years, so cosmetics such as Guts’ Berserker Armor slot right into the Sanctuary without feeling out of place.

Claymore Would Also Be A Nice Fit For Diablo 4’s Themes

Claymore is quite similar to Berserk and the Diablo universe at large. Set in a medieval world plagued by monsters called Yoma, the story revolves around half-human, half-Yoma female warriors. These formidable fighters (known as Claymores) were created by a group called The Organization to kill Yoma for a fee.

With its relentless battles against monstrous beings and macabre setting, Claymore shares some obvious themes with the Diablo universe. Blizzard could design armor sets inspired by Clare or Teresa, introduce Claymore-style greatswords, and create limited-time events with monsters based on Yoma, with Yoki as currency for the corresponding Event Reliquary.

Demon Slayer Could Also Fit The Bill, Albeit With Some Slight Tweaks

With its stunning animation and compelling story, Demon Slayer has captured the hearts of many fans worldwide, some of whom might also play Diablo 4. As the name hints, the series revolves around demon hunting and slaying, which perfectly aligns with the core thesis of Diablo. Collaborating with Demon Slayer could introduce special cosmetics based on the Demon Slayer Corps uniforms (specifically the Hashira-themed ones) or Nichirin swords.

Demon Slayer is generally dark and gruesome, but it is greatly associated with flashing lights and outfits, so any potential collaboration has to deal with potentially disrupting the dark themes the Diablo universe is known for. However, Blizzard and Twitch can leverage the anime's large following to rack up enough views for another Twitch Support a Streamer Campaign.

Jujutsu Kaisen Could Also Feel Right At Home In The Sanctuary

Jujutsu Kaisen is also a fan favorite with its blend of action, horror, and supernatural elements. The anime series focuses on the seemingly unending battle between jujutsu sorcerers and Cursed Spirits (a manifestation of negative human emotions), which aligns well with the monster-slaying aspect of Diablo.

Players could potentially leverage the cosmetics from the Event Reliquaries and shop to style themselves as their favorite jujutsu sorcerers. There are also various Cursed Tools from the anime series that can serve as weapon customizations, from Zenin Toji’s iconic Split Soul Sword to Aoi Todo’s Playful Cloud.
