Sunbrand is a returning Unique item in Diablo 4 that once again turns the Heaven's Fury skill into a monster-melting orbital laser. It opens up a variety of builds for Paladins, though it truly shines with the variety of Judgement setups. Unfortunately, Sunbrand is one of the rarer Uniques for the Paladin class, so getting one might not be as easy as getting other items.

Before you can start beaming monsters with the full concentrated power of the sun in Diablo 4, you're going to have to do a fair bit of grinding (unless you magically get Sunbrand to drop on your first try). Here's where you need to go to get this weapon.

Diablo 4 Sunbrand Drop Location

D4 Sunbrand Drop
Diablo 4 Sunbrand Drop

Sunbrand has an increased chance to drop from Varshan in the Malignant Burrow near the Tree of Whispers. However, this weapon's drop rate seems to be quite low, especially since Varshan's loot pool also contains Light's Rebuke, which is another Unique flair for Paladins. If you have the Malignant Hearts to spare, then Varshan should eventually give you a Sunbrand, but if possible, try fighting Belial in the Palace of the Deceiver for better drop chances.

Alternatively, try gambling for flails with Purveyors of Curiosities, or use Tributes of Ascendancy to get Uniques from Kurast Undercity runs. Varshan and Belial still have the best chance of dropping Sunbrand, but if you lack the boss materials for either of them, try these ones.

D4 Sunbrand Stats
Diablo 4 Sunbrand Stats

This Unique flail grants Heaven's Fury three additional beams as well as a percentage increase to the damage it deals. This effect works with all of Sunbrand's upgraded variants, though the Final Justice upgrade will still only create one shockwave on impact.

Sunbrand comes with the following affixes:

  • +Strength
  • +Maximum Life
  • +Chance for Heaven's Fury to Deal Double Damage
  • +Cooldown Reduction

Is Sunbrand Good?

Absolutely. While the extra beams and damage that Sunbrand provides are good, the main value of Heaven's Fury is its ability to constantly apply and reapply Judgement to enemies. Not only will Judgement procs deal tons of damage, but they can also spread to nearby enemies and amplify your damage astronomically with the right effects equipped.

Sunbrand by itself pales in comparison to other D4 Uniques like Griswold's Opus, but there's plenty of value to be had from it as well. There's still a lot of exploration to be done with Sunbrand builds, but one using Final Justice for massive explosions seems fun. A Heaven's Fury with Shield Charge's Virtuous Charge upgrade has a lot of potential as well.
