Glyphs offer major bonuses for players who have reached Diablo 4's endgame. They grant a variety of effects, ranging from stat boosts to additional effects for certain abilities. Glyphs play a key part in the lategame grind, and players will want to get all the right ones equipped if they want to min-max their characters.

As a major part of the Paragon system in Diablo 4, Glyphs won't be available until players hit max level. Once they do reach this point, players will then have to level up their Glyphs if they want to scale even harder into Torment difficulty. If you're not sure how to upgrade your Glyphs, here's a short guide covering exactly that.

How to Upgrade Glyphs

As of the release of the Vessel of Hatred expansion, Glyphs can only be leveled up after finishing Pit of the Artificer runs. Every time you complete a Pit run, you'll get three attempts to upgrade your Glyphs, and you can get an extra attempt if you finished the run without dying. Previously, Glyphs used an XP system and were upgraded by completing Nightmare Dungeon runs.

Glyphs that reach level 45 become Legendary Glyphs, gaining an additional stat bonus in the process.

Best Way to Level Up Glyphs

Glyph leveling is directly tied to your personal power level. The faster you clear a Pit run, the quicker you'll get to upgrade your Glyphs, which is why players should always look to optimize their Diablo 4 builds.

However, if you're capable of clearing high-tier Pit runs and you want to level up low-level Glyphs, keep in mind that your Glyphs will level up one additional time for every 20 levels between it and the Pit run you completed. For example, if you upgrade a level 1 Glyph after a level 30 Pit run, the Glyph's level will increase by two for every successful upgrade it receives. If you instead finish a level 40 run, each successful upgrade will level your Glyphs up by three.

How Do Glyphs Work?

Glyphs are inserted in sockets found in your Paragon Board. All Glyphs have one main bonus and an additional bonus — the former usually scales off how many nodes of one stat are within the Glyph's range, while the latter typically requires there to be a certain number of stat nodes in its range.

For example, the Tactician Glyph used for Sorcerer builds gives a percentage bonus to all Rare nodes by default, and if there are 25 Dexterity nodes within its range, you'll deal bonus damage for a short duration after casting a Defensive skill.

Ideally, Glyphs should be placed in boards that can satisfy their stat needs. Leveling Glyphs up to 15 and 45 will expand their ranges, making them more viable across more Paragon boards.
