The Reliquary system in Diablo 4 offers players a different way to earn cosmetic items as they play through the game. First introduced in Season 8, Reliquaries offer more or less the same items one would expect from a typical battle pass, but the key difference here is in how players earn such items.
Getting stuff from Reiliquaries can be a bit confusing, but once you know what to do, it's actually quite simple. If you're wondering how to unlock items from this sytem, here's a quick Diablo 4 guide on how it works.
Diablo 4: Season of Belial's Return - Necromancer Leveling Build
Here's a Blood Surge Necromancer build for Diablo 4 Season 8 that's easy to play even without much gear investment.
What are Reliquaries in Diablo 4?
Basically, the Reliquary system is a total overhaul of the old Diablo 4 battle pass. It still contains the regular array of Armory cosmetic items and premium currency, but now, items are separated by category, and players will need to spend Platinum in order to unlock said categories. There are still free cosmetics to be earned, but much like before, the majority of items are locked behind a real-money paywall.
Instead of playing the game to earn Battle Pass XP, players must now earn a new type of in-game currency called Favor Tokens. These are used to buy items inside the Reiliquaries themselves.
A Reliquary contains a number of items, and once you buy all of them, you can get a special bonus item from that specific Reliquary. You won't need to spend any extra tokens for that bonus item.
Season 8 Reliquaries
In Season of Belial's Return, players can choose from the following Reliquaries:
- Belial's Return - Free
- Weapons - 200 Platinum
- Beasts - 500 Platinum
- Armor - 800 Platinum
The good thing about the Reliquaries system is you can skip the categories you don't want and just purchase the ones that interest you, letting you save a bit of Platinum. If you want to get all the items, you'll need to cough up 1000 Platinum, which is the same price as the Premium Battle Pass from previous seasons.
How to Get Favor Tokens
You can get Favor Tokens by defeating enemies and completing quests. Players can only hold up to 99 Favor Tokens at a time, and if they reach that cap, they won't be able to earn any additional tokens. However, tokens will carry over between seasons — if you're not too keen on getting what's currently being offered, you can choose to just save your Favor Tokens for next time.
Favor Tokens can be earned and spent regardless of if a player is playing in the Seasonal or Eternal realm.
