As Diablo 4 progresses into Season 9, the gear, equipment, and loot also receive a few upgrades. One of the most sought-after Uniques added with Sins of the Horadrim is Ophidian Iris, a neckpiece that's designed and intended for Sorcerers.
The Hydra is one of the many spells the Sorcerer has in their talent tree, and the ability is so popular that there are whole builds dedicated to its raw power. Ophidian Iris increases the number of heads the Hydra can grow, making it even more lethal and augmenting the other deadly powers of the Sorcerer in the process.
A character has to be level 60 and playing on Torment Level 1 or higher to find Ophidian Iris. The difficulty levels can be changed in the pre-game menu in the character choice screen or within the game by interacting with a World Tier Statue, which can be found in each of Sanctuary's major cities.
One Diablo 4 Season 9 Unique is the Clear Odd One Out
Diablo 4 Season 9's new uniques are some of the best the game has ever seen, but one among the group falls short of expectations.
Ophidian Iris
A Neckpiece For Sorcerers
- Improves several important stats and makes Hydra a Core Skill.
The generous improvement to a character's Intelligence stat is beneficial for any Sorcerer, and the buff to attack speed is great for any build. However, the additions to Pyromancy damage and the Hydra make this Unique better for a fire build.
Normally, the number of talent points used in Hydra determines the number of heads the Sorcerer summons. With Ophidian Iris equipped, every spell results in a Hydra with three heads regardless. For those Sorcerers who have already made an investment in Hydra that gives them more than three heads, the head increases in size and does 85% more damage.
Diablo 4’s Best Mythic Remains Evergreen in Season 9
Diablo 4 Season 9's new uniques offer a wide variety of build options, and one Mythic is the perfect complement to many of them, three seasons later.
Ways To Get It
Farm Bosses, Open Caches, And Trade
- Grind and farm in the authentic Blizzard tradition.
Most players will turn to certain bosses first, which is the most reliable way to find this handy Unique, but there are other ways to find it aside from fighting specific monsters. Players can also try their luck at trading obols or randomly find them in a loot cache.
Boss Farms
Each of the following bosses has Ophidian Iris in their loot table, provided the player is facing them at Torment difficulty 1 or higher. Each of them has a hoard that players can access for Ancestral and Mythic Uniques.
- Echo of Duriel. Players can find this demon in the Gaping Crevasse just southeast of Gea Kul, the major coastal city of the Kehjistan region. Use poison resistance to gain an advantage in this fight.
- Echo of Andariel. Waiting in the depths of Hangman's Hall, which is also in Kehjistan, but in the eastern part near the Tarsarak waypoint. Andariel uses magic, so it's helpful to fill a few sockets with diamonds to improve resistance.
- Harbinger of Hatred. Harbinger’s Den is in central Nahantu, near the northern coastline and east of the city of Kurast Bazaar. Their powers are similar to Andariel's and consist of ranged and AoE magical attacks.

Diablo 4 Season 9's new uniques are some of the best the game has ever seen, but one among the group falls short of expectations.
Obol Trade
- A long shot that might work, but that's the whole point of this vendor.
The Purveyor of Curiosities trades random items for obols, one of the currencies used in Diablo 4, and players can only choose based on a basic item description and no further information. A mysterious necklace might turn out to be Ophidian Iris. The same rules apply when it comes to the world difficulty level set at Torment 1 or higher.
The disadvantage here is that it is a long shot, with a whole catalog of items that might appear instead, but players have reported success. Characters that have a healthy stockpile of obols can take the chance.
Caches
- Rewarded for completing tasks and quests.
It's a smaller chance for a drop than the boss fights, but there are so many quests and side-quests reward caches of valuable items, and one of them might be Ophidian Iris. Players can often choose the type of gear or item, but nothing more is revealed until the transaction is complete and the cache is opened.
This is similar to the obol trade in the sense that there's only a slim chance the cache will carry the specific item. However, it's still a possible random reward provided the character is on Torment 1 difficulty or higher and is level 60. Sorcerers who are looking for this item can do some extra side quests to increase their chances of a lucky drop.
