Diablo 4 is set to release on June 6, with excitement around the game only increasing as this date draws closer. With the title promising to be one of the most large-scale in the franchise's history, it is clear to see why the release is garnering so much interest.

As Diablo 4 is so close yet so far away in the eyes of many, many fans may have turned towards older franchise installments to keep themselves satisfied in the meantime. The mainline Diablo games and their many expansions have detailed and layered campaigns that can consume a lot of time. While usually praised for their replayability, single playthroughs of the Diablo titles can still rack up a large number of hours, varying between titles.

The first Diablo launched the franchise in 1996, introducing players to the world of Sanctuary. Due to the time of its release, it is no wonder that the first Diablo possesses one of the shortest times to complete its main campaign.

If players solely focus on the main objectives, then the campaign of Diablo can be completed in about 13.5 hours. However, this can be extended to about 30 hours if players aim to attain 100% completion. The first Diablo received an expansion in 1997 called Diablo: Hellfire. While Hellfire offers a similar experience to the main story of Diablo, its nature as an expansion means it only takes around five hours to beat. In total, the first Diablo and its expansion can be completed in around 20 hours.

Diablo 2: Time To Beat

Diablo 2 released in 2000, with many considering the game to be a serious step up in terms of content when compared to its predecessor. The scale of Diablo 2's campaign is a vast improvement on Diablo's, with it taking roughly 34 hours to beat the main story. The huge amount of this involved content is best portrayed in the time it takes to 100% complete, with Diablo 2 taking roughly 250 hours to perfect.

The expansion for Diablo 2 is Lord of Destruction, which released in 2001. This expansion alone can take up to 20 hours to beat, with "perfection" taking anywhere up to 180 hours. The 2021 remaster for the game, Diablo 2: Resurrected, is shorter to complete. Resurrected's story takes approximately 21 hours to complete, with 100% completion being closer to 85 hours.

Diablo 3: Time To Beat

2012's Diablo 3 ended a long period of silence for the franchise, being considered by many as a revival of the IP. Interestingly, the main story of Diablo 3 can be completed quite quickly, only taking around 18 hours. However, if players wish to achieve 100% completion, players will have to sink roughly 159 hours into the game.

Diablo 3's first expansion came in 2014 with Reaper of Souls, with it taking approximately ten hours to complete, but the perfectionist grind for Reaper of Souls is closer to 85 hours. The release received a second expansion with 2017's Rise of the Necromancer. This expansion has a slightly longer completion time of 18 hours, but its time to complete is much shorter at only around 20 hours.

While it is understandable that fans are growing restless waiting for Diablo 4, they have a huge range of prior content to re-explore. Considering the length of the IP's prior mainline titles and their relevant expansions, players should be able to keep themselves occupied until Diablo 4's June release.

Diablo 4 will be available on June 6 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
