Diablo 4 brings back some of the most popular classes from the franchise’s history to battle the infernal forces of Hell once again. In Diablo 4, the Necromancer – a long-time fan-favorite class – is available at launch, and it’s clearly one of the strongest classes. The Necromancer is a powerhouse of unholy magic: raising the dead, hurling bones, exploding corpses, and so much more.

One of the Necromancer’s many unholy abilities allows them to raise a golem minion. This hulking abomination trudges through the battlefield like a juggernaut. It’s excellent at drawing the attention of foes, and it has an enormous pool of health. To get their own unholy abomination in Diablo 4, players need to complete a couple of steps. This guide will cover those steps in detail and describe how players can summon their new golem after it's unlocked.

The quest that unlocks the Golem skill is picked up in the Sarkova Pass region of Fractured Peaks by communing with a statue at the above location. The ghost of a man named Maltorius will appear and instruct the player to collect 12 Unbroken Bones to use to assemble the body of their golem. The bones can be collected from enemies nearby.

After the player turns in the Unbroken Bones, Maltorius instructs the player to collect a vile artifact from the Bitter Cave. The entrance to the cave is a short walk to the south.

The Bitter Cave is a very simple dungeon that consists of one hallway and a medium-sized chamber that contains a Jar of Souls. When the player interacts with the jar, waves of enemies will begin to spawn. The player needs to defeat as many enemies as it takes to fill the jar with souls.

After the jar is filled, Maltorius will appear and talk the player through a ritual that will summon their golem. The Golem skill will then be unlocked.

In Diablo 4, the golem is summoned in much the same way as the dead are raised. There’s a specific skill, called Golem, that needs to be assigned to the player’s action bar. As long as the skill is assigned, the golem will remain active.

If the player activates the Golem skill while their golem is active, the golem will become Unstoppable, Taunt nearby enemies, and take reduced damage for a short while. This is especially useful for drawing enemies away from not just the Necromancer, but their skeletons too.

How to Summon Blood and Iron Golems

By default, players will have access to only the Bone Golem. As they level up, they'll eventually unlock the Blood and Iron Golems in the Book of the Dead. The former is unlocked at level 28, while the latter is unlocked at level 32.

The Blood Golem is great for boosting your personal survivability. It absorbs a percentage of the damage you take by default, and with its second upgrade, it will instead deal and take significantly more damage while it is Healthy (have over 80% health). When Sacrificed, this Necromancer Golem variant gives you bonus Max Life.

Meanwhile, the Iron Golem can control crowds with shockwaves and AOE slams, and boost your Critical Strike Damage when Sacrificed. It offers plenty of options for builds, and it's particularly good for Necromancer Bone Spear builds thanks to its bonus crit damage when sacrificed.
