A Diablo 4 developer has confirmed that the secret cow level doesn't exist in the game. The fourth mainline game in the Diablo franchise lets players explore the world of Sanctuary to hunt down Lilith, who is the Daughter of Hatred and the Queen of Succubi.

Diablo as a whole has had many memorable moments that avid players remember. One of the most iconic ones was the secret cow level in Diablo 2 known as Moo Moo Farm. This event could be triggered after finishing the main story at any difficulty. Afterward, players must combine Wirt's Leg and a Tome of Town Portal in the Horadric Cube, which will create a red portal in the Rogue Encampment that leads to an area filled with Hell Bovines. The level became a popular spot for individual and partied players to level up. The secret cow level was also an Easter egg in Diablo 3's Whimsyshire.

Fast-forward to today, Diablo general manager Rod Fergusson told Kinda Funny on YouTube that there wasn't a secret cow level in Diablo 4. He said that the team had been really focused on keeping the game "as grounded as possible," seemingly implying that they didn't work on a quirky level for this installment.

However, many Diablo 4 players aren't convinced as they're reportedly trying to search for the secret cow level. As PC Gamer pointed out, some claimed to have found hints pointing at the level, like the mention of "Oxen Gods" in Ked Bardu at the Dry Steppes, but they seemed to be a stretch. One player named Carpeggios took the search a step further by creating the "D4 - Not Finding A Cow Level" Discord server for fellow secret cow level enthusiasts. The player told PC Gamer that they're convinced Diablo 4 could have a hidden level based on alleged datamined information and clues on the internet.

As of writing, the alleged secret cow level in Diablo 4 still hasn't been found, but members of Carpeggios' Discord server still seemed to be determined to find any hints that might allude to its existence. It's now become a scavenger hunt for a game mode that probably doesn't exist in the first place as Fergusson said. Carpeggios said they were willing to test out some ideas to try and trigger Diablo 4's secret cow level or the equivalent of it, but there's still no concrete news of it succeeding. Fortunately, Diablo 4 has a rich endgame system that players can tackle in the meantime.

Diablo 4 is available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
