Leveling up in Diablo 4 can take a long while. The game encourages players to start with a fresh character with every new season, which is something that not everyone might be keen on doing. However, one can't experience a new season's offerings without starting over.

Thankfully, you can cut a nice chunk of time off the leveling experience by following an efficient XP farming method in Diablo 4. If you want to reach max level and the endgame as quickly as possible, here are a few things you can try to make the level grind fly by a bit faster.

This guide assumes that players have already completed the Diablo 4 campaign.

Diablo 4: Solo Seasonal Leveling Guide

Diablo 4 Season 8 Blood Surge Necromancer

Every season in Diablo 4 brings something new to the table, but one thing remains constant — if you want to level up fast, you'll want to do whatever the current seasonal quest is. Not only will you get XP and loot, but you'll also be able to enjoy the buffs and mechanics provided by the season itself. We strongly recommend prioritizing the seasonal questline every time you start a new character.

Still, just doing the seasonal quest alone won't get you to max level faster than usual. For that, you'll want to consider the following.

Start with a Strong Leveling Build

Not all builds are created equal, and if you want to level up as quickly as possible, you'll need to use the strongest low-level builds available for your class.

A good leveling build is usually one that isn't too item-dependent, especially if you're starting your first new seasonal character. There are many good leveling builds, but the best ones tend to shift based on what gets buffed or nerfed prior to a seasonal patch, so pay attention to what changes every season.

What Difficulty Should You Choose?

Diablo 4 Difficulties menu

Unless you find yourself dying too often, Hard is a good difficulty to start in. Just choosing Hard difficulty gives a 75% XP boost, and if you can go higher, then you can get a higher XP bonus.

Diablo 4 isn't exactly a difficult game, but success does rely heavily on how good your gear is. If you'lre lucky enough to get amazing equipment while leveling up, then try increasing the difficulty level some more. If not, stay in Hard mode.

Farming Fugitive Heads is the first step to unlocking even greater power in Diablo 4 Season 7. Here's how to do it.

Farm Helltides and Whisper Bounties

The Player Picking A Reward From The Tree Of Whispers

During downtimes in between seasonal quests, players should be farming Helltides and Tree of Whispers bounties in the meantime. Both of these will yield tons of XP in a short amount of time, especially if you're doing Helltide events and banking Whisper bounties.

Alternating between doing seasonal quests and farming Helltides can easily get you to at leastlevel 30 in just a couple of hours. As you're leveling up, you're also unlocking more of the current season's featured content/mechanics. More importantly, the loot you get from doing this will set you up for the next farming strategy.

Here are a few more Helltide-specific tips:

  • Save your Cinders and open as many Tortured Gifts chests as you can.
  • Kill as many enemies as you can while running around Helltide areas to increase your Threat meter. Max this out, and a large wave of demons will spawn alongside a Hellborne miniboss.

Don't forget to drink Elixirs. These will improve both your combat stats and your XP gains.

Farm Nightmare Dungeons and Kurast Undercity

Nightmare Dungeons Rewards in Diablo 4

Loot from Helltide chests and Whisper caches can reward players with Nightmare Dungeon sigils and Tributes to open the Undercity of Kurast in Kurast Bazaar. Both are great sources of XP, especially if they have modifiers that boost XP gains.

Nightmare Dungeon sigils can be recycled by dismantling them and crafting new ones at an Occultist. If you can, try to get as many sigils with the bonus XP modifier. The same cannot be done with Tributes, but if you get some that provide bonux experience, then you should prioritize doing those first.

If you have sigils or Tributes, prioritize doing them over farming Helltides. Still, don't forget about the seasonal quest.

Clear Strongholds

Strongholds reward players with tons of XP when completed. Not only do they have large numbers of enemies to blow up, but the bosses inside each of them reward players with large chunks of XP when defeated. Once you reach about level 40, we recommend clearing all the Strongholds for their XP rewards.
