Diablo 4 players are frustrated with the game's Tempering mechanic and are providing examples of why Blizzard should take another pass on it in a future update. Blizzard hasn't hesitated to make changes to Diablo 4, as the game took on a live service and seasonal model for this latest iteration, so there's certainly a chance Tempering could see adjustments down the road.

Although Diablo 4's seasonal model got off to a slow start, Season 4 was viewed by many as the turning point. Known as Loot Reborn, Season 4 of Diablo 4 was one of the biggest releases at that point, aiming to create a much better experience through gameplay and loot overhauls. Tempering was one of those additions, originally allowing players to add new and different affixes to a piece of gear using the Blacksmith. However, over time, the system lost standing with players, now viewed as more of a hassle and hinderance.

Diablo 4 Season 10 has a plethora of Chaos Perks for players to try out on their build, but there is one that most players should avoid entirely.

Diablo 4 Players Have Issues With Tempering

Tempering in Diablo 4 was originally introduced to give players more control over their loot, changing gear to better align with certain playstyles or builds. However, the system isn't perfect and players are starting to push back against it, with some even calling it the worst system currently in the game. An example as to why Tempering can be frustrating to use comes from Reddit user stormalong128, who posted a video using a Natural Scheme Recipe for their item and continued to get Barrier Generation 5 times in a row before ending on Thorns.

Many comments in the thread highlighted their own poor experiences with Tempering, from those who lamented having bad luck, to others who hate having limited rolls and being forced to use a scroll to reset the attempts. Generally speaking, Tempering has been criticized for a multitude of reasons due to its reliance on RNG and potential for repetitive stat rolls. Worse yet, each item has a limit on how much it can be Tempered, meaning if the last roll is a bad one, the item is essentially stuck that way. The lack of control has many players wishing Blizzard would implement some sort of safeguards or an undo button, perhaps to go back to a previous roll that was skipped over.

Diablo 4 Releases Season 10 Update

Although Season 10 is still relatively new, having kicked off on September 23, Blizzard has already begun making adjustments to the core gameplay loop. The studio announced that the Druid's Aspect of Wildrage was temporarily disabled, which players found to have a major impact on the cooldown of certain skills and abilities. Specifically, the aspect paired well with certain Chaos Perks this season, basically removing the cooldown time on Ravens to help proc other powerful effects and abilities.
