Digimon Story: Time Stranger is a complex game with tons of Digimon to befriend and battle with. And among those, there are a few Digimon that players should train as a priority, since they become really powerful in the late game, and can carry them through the most difficult missions and clear the most challenging Boss Battles.
So, with the purpose of helping players find their Fated Partners, this comprehensive guide offers information on some of the most powerful Digimon players can get in the early stages of the game. From some of the popular partner Digimon, to some obscure evolution lines that players could totally miss if they are not careful, here are some of the best Digimon to train and evolve from the early game.
Dracomon
This Digimon is super important for the late game, since players will need two fully trained Dracomon to acquire one of the strongest Jogress Evolutions: Examon. Dracomon can be trained to evolve into Coredramon (Green) and Coredramo (Blue), which will evolve into Groundramon and Wingdramon (Ultimate), and later to Breakdramon and Slayerdramon (Mega). Fusing these two Digimon will result in the powerful Examon, which is considered the Dragon Emperor and the strongest of the Dragon-type Digimon, as well as one of the Holy Knights. It is recommended that players get two Dracomon early and train them all the way into Mega, so that they can DNA Evolve them into the powerful Examon in the late game.
Renamon
Obtaining Renamon is possible by evolving Wanyamon when it has at least 380 SP and 230 INT. Renamon is one of the Partner Digimon from Digimon Tamers, and it is a strong DATA-attribute attacker/supporter with access to a lot of powerful skills. It later evolves into Kyubimon, then Taomon, and Sakuyamon. Sakuyamon has an alternate mode (Miko Mode), which is considerably more powerful as a supporter, and has access to lots of elemental area skills.
Terriermon
Terriermon: Many players' favorite Digimon, and one of the Three Chosen's Partner from Digimon Tamers. Terriermon can be obtained by evolving Tokomon, which in turn can be obtained early by devolving the Partner Patamon the Agent receives during the intro mission. Terriermon evolves into Gargomon, then into Rapidmon, and MachGargomon in its fina Stage. This evolution line also has lots of alternate routes and can provide players with access to other powerful Digimon of the Ultimate and Mega levels.
Veemon
Veemon is one of the most Versatile and powerful species players will find in the game. It has access to three Armor Evolutions: Flamedramon, Lightdramon, and Magnamon, which can be obtained relatively early, plus, can evolve into the Powerful Attacker Veedramon line, or X-Vmon, a Free-attribute Champion Digimon that can also be fused with Stingmon in one of two forms: Paildramon and Imperialdramon. The latter can also change into its Battle Mode, and later, Paladin Mode, which is one of the most powerful Burst Modes in the game. Players obtain a Koromon early during their adventure, so they can evolve it into Veemon instead of the classic Agumon, and get a powerful ally that will guide them to victory in many battles.
Guilmon
Arguably, the best of the partner Digimon from Digimon Tamers, Guilmon's main evolution line reaches the powerful Mega called Gallantmon (Dukemon in the original version), which can also evolve into a Burst Mode (CrimsonGallantmon) and an Alternate Form (MedievalGallantmon). Needless to say, this Virus Digimon really packs a punch and can carry players throughout the story with ease. Guilmon also has access to part of the Veemon and Greymon evolution lines, and depending on its personality, it can become a great asset later into the game.
Patamon
Patamon: Patamon's line has access to powerful Light and Wind Attribute attacks, and some of the most powerful late-game evolutions (MagnaAngemon, Seraphimon, Dominimon), and is a solid starter since it is also a Vaccine attribute Digimon. For most part of the game, players will face Virus Digimon (Titans) in battles, and the Angemon line is specialized in fighting Virus-Dark Attribute foes, which come a little bit later in the game, but are tough nails to bite. So, players cannot go wrong by investing in Patamon and taking it to the higher levels.
Lucemon
Speaking about raw power, Lucemon is one of the greatest choices players can pick, and it becomes accessible earlier for those who picked Patamon as their Partner Digimon, since it's an alternate evolution line from Tokomon (Patamon's pre-evolution). Once players have reached Agent Rank 5, they can De-volve their Patamon (or Angemon) into Tokomon, then take this Digimon to Talent Rank 30. Then, they will be able to evolve it into Lucemon, a powerful Digimon that will stay as a Rookie mon with the power of a Mega for a long time. Lucemon might not evolve until players reach Agent Rank 7 later into the end-game, but when it does, it's a one Digimon-army from the Virus type. Lucemon Fall Down is the strongest Virus-type Digimon that players can get in the game, and that's not even its final form. Later, it evolves into Lucemon Satan Mode, and then into Lucamon Larva Mode, both powerful forms with incredible powers.
Impmon
Impmon can be found roaming around the Japan Government Building (the earliest area of the game) and has the advantage of evolving into some of the best Digimon that cause Magical Damage. It can evolve into the IceDevimon Line or the Witchmon line, both of which are extremely useful in the mid-to-late game, since players face a lot of Vaccine and Virus opponents, and some of them are from the Water type (Vulnerable to Ice), while others are from the Earth type, vulnerable to Wind. IceDevimon will beat most Water-type Data Digimon, while Witchmon can focus on dealing with Vaccine attribute Earth-type Digimon, forming a solid lineup. It is also important to mention that Impmon's evolution line is connected to BlackGatomon's line, which in turn evolves into LadyDevimon, which players can use alongside Angewomon to get the powerful Mastemon DNA Evolution. Players can also follow this evolution line to get either Beelzemon or BeelStarmon, which are two of the trio known as the Three Musketeers.
Shoutmon
Shoutmon can be obtained by evolving Koromon while having 270 ATK or more, and is one of the strongest Rookie Digimon to have around. This creature evolves into OmniShoutmon, which is an Ultimate Stage Digimon and then to MagnaKidmon, another of the Three Musketeers, and a powerful End-Game Digimon to have in a full-attack lineup. Shoutmon also has access to various Digi Evolution lines from the Veemon, Agumon, Guilmon, and Huckmon lines, so it's a decent option with various evolution routes for players to try out. Players can always devolve it and retrain it using the DigiFarm feature.
Dorumon & Ryudamon
Jogress Digi Evolutions, also known as DNA Evolutions are powerful limit-break Digimon that are only available for the most hardcore Tamers. In Digimon Story: Time Stranger, getting some of these powerful Digimon won't be easy, unless players start training their Digimon early. Such is the case of Dorumon and Ryudamon, who together form one of the strongest DNA Digivolutions in the game. The Dorumon line ends in the powerful Alphamon, while Ryudamon's Mega Stage is Ooryumon. With their powers combined, they form the mighty Alphamon Ooryuken, a beast among Jogress Evolutions (even stronger than Omnimon).
These two digimon from the Data and Vaccine Attributes will come in handy throughout the adventure, and when players reach the Late Game (Agent Level 7+), they can fuse them into their Jogress (DNA) Evolution and destroy everything on sight. Ryudamon can be obtained early by evolving Tsunomon while having at least 250 SP, and Dorumon evolves from Dorimon, obtained early in the sewers of Central Town.
