While players will accumulate quite a lot of EXP as they work through Digimon Story: Time Stranger's main and side missions, they will need to do so farming if they hope to get their Digimon to Level 99 and maximum cumulative stats. Fortunately, there are some great methods for farming EXP in the late game. This guide explains how to pursue three such methods, and it will help players max out their Digimon in Digimon Story: Time Stranger.
As noted, the EXP farming strategies detailed in this guide are intended for players in the late game who want to perfect their Digimon for the final battles and Time Stranger's New Game Plus mode. It also assumes that the reader has not purchased the Outer Dungeons The Halls of EXP DLC, as the area contained within that DLC is the best option overall.
Best EXP Farming Methods in Digimon Story Time Stranger
AFK Method
While there are faster ways to earn EXP in Digimon Story Time Stranger, this method is noteworthy because it can be pursued without any input from the player. Indeed, players who follow these steps can level up their Digimon while they are entirely away from the game:
- Travel to the Cosmic Area - Present Day.
- Navigate to the Heat side, and make your way to the third map (Heat Cosmic: Whiteflame Area).
- Stand on the path so that the MudFrigimon roll into you.
- Turn Auto Battle on.
Players will now find that they are repeatedly put into combat with MudFrigimon, and the Auto Battle feature will take care of the rest. Notably, MudFrigimon are vulnerable to Vaccine, Leaf, and Water, and players who want to make the most of this AFK farm are advised to fill their parties with Digimon that have that attribute and access to those types of attacks.
A similar setup can also be established with the rolling Penmon on the Frost side of the Cosmic Area.
Infinite Ankylomon Method
With a bit of setup, Time Stranger players can create as many Ankylomon as they wish, which they can then load into the Digimon that they want to take to Level 99. The first part of this setup centers around unlocking Shakkoumon in the Field Guide, and here is an easy way to do that:
- Get an Ankylomon. To get an Ankylomon, head to the Shinjuku Underground Waterway: North Block, convert a Tokomon, digivolve to Armadillomon, then digivolve to Ankylomon.
- Get an Angemon. To get an Angemon, head to the Shinjuku Underground Waterway: North Block, convert a Tokomon, digivolve to Patamon, then digivolve to Angemon.
- Make sure the Angemon has an Enlightened personality. If it does not, use Time Stranger's DigiFarm to train it to that personality type.
- Put the Ankylomon and Angemon into the active party and start a battle.
- Use one of their DNA Digivolution Special Skills in battle and fuse into Shakkoumon.
Once Shakkoumon has been unlocked in the Field Guide, players should unlock the four Digivolution of Wisdom nodes in the Bonds of Wisdom Agent Skill tree. These four skills will allow players to take these actions:
- Digivolve the Angemon into MagnaAngemon.
- Digivolve the MagnaAngemon into Goldramon.
- De-digivolve the Goldramon into Shakkoumon.
- De-digivolve the Shakkoumon into Angemon, making sure the Angemon is set as primary.
Players will now find that they have an extra Ankylomon in their box, and they will receive another copy every time that they repeat the previous four steps. Players can then immediately load those Ankylomon copies into the desired Digimon, or they can do so after leveling them up if they prefer.
Scan Farming Method
For those players who prefer a more active approach, a good EXP farming option is to quickly accumulate 100% scans in order to convert a ton of fodder Digimon, which can be leveled up in the box and then loaded into desirable Digimon for fast levels. While there are many places to farm scans, the Shinjuku Underground Waterway: North Block is a great target. For full clarity, this area is accessed through the manhole in Shinjuku: A Certain Back Alley - 8 Years Ago, and here is how to farm scans there:
- Use DigiRide to summon your mount in Time Stranger.
- Run into every Digimon on the map. Most should be destroyed immediately, and it should only take one round to beat the rest.
- As soon as a scan hits 100%, convert it.
- After clearing the map, leave it and reenter to respawn all the Digimon.
- Repeat the previous steps to amass a ton of Digimon.
